People's Artist Quoc Khanh's full name is Tran Quoc Khanh, born in 1962, originally from Hanoi. He is a veteran actor and a big name on the Northern stage, especially in comedy.
Artist Quoc Khanh has two sisters, his parents are civil servants. After graduating from high school, he took the actor training course of the Vietnam Drama Theater (1978-1982) with famous actors such as Trung Anh, Que Hang, Do Ky, Viet Thang. This was also the first actor course of the Theater.
In 1982, Quoc Khanh graduated and performed his military service. After his time in the army, he returned to the Theater, working in theater and cinema. In 1998, Quoc Khanh played the role of civil servant Thao in the comedy Tet Ghen, which impressed the audience and was often shown every Tet holiday.
In this film, Quoc Khanh - Minh Hang play a married couple. Quoc Khanh is a weak and afraid of his wife, but his friend tricks him into being "jealous" in a very cute way. The reason he is given many roles like this is because of his somewhat harsh face and natural acting. Quoc Khanh doesn't have to act stiffly or try too hard. The deep features in both tragic and comedic works create a unique color.
The role of Gu in Ao Lua Ha Dong made Quoc Khanh's name soar "like a kite in the wind", when the excellent film won the Golden Rice Awar.d in 2006 and the Golden Kite Awar.d in 2007 for the category of Best Actor.
With over 40 years of experience in the profession, the audience has become familiar with People's Artist Quoc Khanh through comedy skits in Weekend Meeting and films such as: Jealous.y, Punishment, Happy Singles, Chil.d and Soldier, Waves at the Bottom of the River, Hidden Face... However, when playing the role of the Jade Emperor in Year-End Meeting, Quoc Khanh's name really became closer to the public. With a serious look and humorous, satirical sayings, Quoc Khanh has become an indispensable symbol of the program.
Many audiences believe that artist Quoc Khanh was tailor-made for the role of the Jade Emperor. Every frown and hand movement of his exudes a profound and authoritative air. Although the Jade Emperor has few lines, he can easily "grasp" the Taos with just a few questions and pointed comments.
Every Tao Quan season, Quoc Khanh leaves a mark in the public's heart with his valuable lines, witty actions and gestures. Many of Quoc Khanh's sayings have become catchphrases of Vietnamese youth such as: Like pink, hat.e lies, Be determined to get things done, Do nothing but still be rich, only by cheating...
In the program Chuyen Dong 24h, artist Van Dung talked about a "forever memorable" memory with Quoc Khanh. In a Tao Quan segment, when Van Dung played the role of Tao Y te and was hung from the ceiling of the stage, only the Jade Emperor let her down. However, Quoc Khanh forgot this segment and went to the back of the stage to remember his lines, causing the whole crew to spread out to find him.
The comedic actress shared: "When I was hung up there, my insides were tied. The rope was tied to my stomach and chest, so it hurt terribly. The whole theater clapped loudly to encourage me, and Quoc Khanh ran in in panic and said: 'I allow you to come down'."
In 2012, Quoc Khanh was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist. In 2022, he retired from the Vietnam Drama Theater, only participating in some artistic activities. In 2023, he was awarded the title of People's Artist.
Despite retiring for more than 2 years, People's Artist Quoc Khanh still regularly participates in Tao Quan every Tet holiday. In early 2024, the crew of the program Meet at the end of the year changed the entire old cast, only keeping artist Quoc Khanh in the role of Ngoc Hoang. It can be said that he is the "soul" of Tao Quan with his charming and irreplaceable acting style.
Retirement does not mea.n the end of his acting career. Quoc Khanh said he considers retirement as a milestone, but his spirit is still attached to the stage. "I love it and I will pursue it until I can't do it anymore," Meritorious Artist Quoc Khanh confided.
While many veteran artists choose to inspire the younger generation, Meritorious Artist Quoc Khanh considers himself a true actor, "just an actor, a performer, a practitioner, without much teaching experience". He can meet and advise young actors on acting, character development, or interact with young actors, but cannot prepare lesson plans like others.
Answering a reporter's question about his intention to become a director, Quoc Khanh shook his head because he had not studied directing. "Moreover, I am only an actor, I just want to complete my role and then have peace of mind. If I were a director, I would have to be tired of many things, besides worrying about the script, staging, decoration, music, lighting... but it would never be perfect. So I chose a peaceful path and just followed that path," he said.
Unlike his dignified appearance on stage, Quoc Khanh has unique personality traits in real life. He can drink up to 1 liter of fresh milk every day, especially at night, and loves the color pink. Quoc Khanh said that pink makes him feel warm in winter and cool in summer. He also likes wearing jeans, fishing at night, and playing billiards. At the Vietnam Drama Theater, his colleagues call him "Khanh Quay" because of his humorous and mischievous personality.
In his personal life, Quoc Khanh is famous for his simple lifestyle, dressing modestly and rarely buying branded goods. Since his mother passed away in 2017, he has lived in her house, which is about 10 square meters. The room is so narrow that furniture such as the bed and wardrobe are designed to be thin to fit the space. "My wardrobe is not even deep enough to hang clothes vertically, but has to be hung upside down," the artist shared.
However, the actor is satisfied with his current life. At the ag.e of 62, Quoc Khanh is still single. He expressed: "I choose a free life so I don't get married. Because getting married, besides love, also comes with responsibilities. Everyone has their own thoughts, I don't have to follow anyone, I feel that a happy and comfortable life is enough." He also said that he doesn't want to make the woman who has to spend her life with an artist suffer.
Although there are times when he is lonely, People's Artist Quoc Khanh is still satisfied with his choice. For him, acting is "very enjoyable" because it is emotional and brings moments of sublimation. With more than 40 years of dedication to art, the male artist is happy to be able to give his all on stage and enjoy happy moments with colleagues and friends.
Van Dung was "shy" when recalling going to the contest and reaching the top 15 of Miss Vietnam Khánh Huyền16:30:12 07/03/2024Referring to Van Dung, people will immediately think of one of the most prominent female comedians in the North or Medical Apple storming the Apple Quan stage every Tet to spring.
