In 1963, he and Hiroshi Fujimoto and some friends founded a studio called Zero, producing many animated films, typically the Astro Boy series. He is loved by many readers for his witty writing style. In addition to the children's series, he also wrote a number of short horror-style manga, reflecting many social realism issues.
Some of the popular manga series Motoo Abiko created exclusively are Ninja Hattori-kun (released from 1964 to 1988, with animated versions and video games), The Laughing Salesman (which sold 3.5 million copies each. in Japan in June 1999). In 2008, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese government for his contributions to culture.
On December 1, 2021, the bronze statue of the robot cat Doraemon was inaugurated at Miyashita Park in Tokyo, Japan. This is an activity in the series of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of the manga of the same name.
The inauguration ceremony of the statue took place on the birthday of the late artist Fujiko F.Fujio (1933-1996), the author of a manga that has been loved by young readers for generations.
The statue is named "Doraemons Door to the Future" (roughly translated: "Doraemon's future door") designed by Fujiko Pro company, inspired by the "treasure" of the magical door of Doraemon. The company donated the work to the Shibuya district, which is being redeveloped as a place to transmit Japanese culture through futuristic architecture.
In the bronze statue, there are also 11 characters from other manga series such as "Perman", "Kiteretsu and the Mysterious Dictionary" - the "brain children" of the author Fujio, along with the magic door and the mysterious door. 6 other "treasures" of the robot cat Doraemon. Notably, the work is 3,921 m high - the reverse reading of the 1,293m height of the robot cat character Doraemon.
In 1992, Vietnam's Kim Dong Publishing House chose Doraemon as the first manga to be released. This decision initially received a lot of mixed opinions due to public opinion that Doraemon was not suitable for children. However, Kim Dong persisted in releasing 94 volumes of non-copyrighted stories and achieved impressive sales of up to 10 million copies.
Realizing the potential of Doraemon, Kim Dong Publishing House has proposed to cooperate and buy the official copyright from author Fujiko F. Fujio. They also invited him to Vietnam to talk face-to-face. For Vietnamese readers, the author himself is not only an ordinary mangaka, but also a character who has a great influence on the generation of children in our country.
Doraemon stories are an indispensable part of childhood for many Vietnamese readers. So far, although this late artist has gone far, Doraemon and the magical treasures of this robotic cat from the future are still strong enough to fascinate people.
