The woman was falsely accused of selling 500,000 VND 3 pineapples: "In my hometown, people tell me to be greedy, I am not very rich to sell." Despite being vindicated, Ms. T still faced criticism from netizens for the "West is always right, we are always wrong" mindset of some people.
On April 30, many press agencies (including CAND Newspaper) reported initial information from the police leader of Hang Dao ward after this unit had a meeting with the woman who allegedly "chopped" foreign tourists when selling 3 pineapples for VND 500,000 (which has been reported by many social networking sites and newspapers in recent days).
After the information was published, realizing that public opinion continued to have many conflicting opinions, the reporter of CAND newspaper contacted the representative of the Hoan Kiem District Police to learn more about the case.
In the afternoon of April 29, Mrs. T went to the police of Hang Dao ward to work. The Public Security Agency has also invited some members of the public who witnessed the incident to provide information. Based on the testimony of Ms. T and witnesses, the police of Hoan Kiem district initially clarified the content of the case as follows:
Around 9:40 p.m. on April 27, Mrs. T was hawking at the intersection of Hang Duong - Hang Buom. At this time, two foreign female tourists came to ask to buy pineapples. Mrs. T sold 1 peeled pineapple and put it in a plastic bag cut into 4 and raised 5 fingers to quote 50,000 VND / 1 bag. The two female tourists handed over the VND 500,000 bill and Mrs. T returned VND 450,000.
However, two foreign female tourists after holding the excess money demanded to take 2 more unpeeled pineapples. Mrs. T disagreed, leading to a double, loud voice. One of the female tourists threw Mrs. T's belongings from the car to the ground.
Many residents who heard the quarrel ran to intervene. Some demanded that Mrs. T return the money to the guests. Mrs. T explained that she only sold 50,000 VND / 1 bag of pineapple. Some people thought that the price was still expensive and asked Mrs. T to return the money. Mrs. T took back 450,000 VND from the female tourist and opened the cloth bag she carried in her body, took out the 500,000 VND bill and gave it to them, no longer selling. The two female tourists who received the money also left.
Information in the report of Hanoi Television said that Ms. T was illiterate, but through her son's account, she learned that she was "stoned" and slandered by public opinion and netizens.
" I gave her two back 450 thousand. I don't know how she keeps picking up my pineapple. I don't understand, I think I don't know the language and she doesn't know the language, I don't sell it anymore, give her money back. But people buy 1 pineapple, not buy 3 that are posted like that on the internet.
That's just the story. I don't argue, I don't know what to argue. Just seeing her squirm and bracing pineapples, I don't listen," Mrs T said.
Mrs T didn't understand why something small had been pushed into a serious one on social media. The life of the street vendor woman was more or less disturbed after being heavily offended by public opinion.
"I'm telling the truth, I'm not afraid of anything. But at home, my brothers, children, grandchildren are also frustrated. I was told I was greedy, I wouldn't be rich in that," Mrs. T added.
Even with the response from the authorities, many Vietnamese continue to condemn the fruit seller, demanding confrontation with the tourist.
In addition to the above opinions, there are also many people who are calmer when saying that "I don't know if the fruit girl is right or wrong, but watching the clip, the behavior of knocking out the stall of foreign tourists is also not right".
In response to the "bronze" reaction of some people, some people said: "West is always right, we are always wrong", "we despise our fellow citizens" ...
The incident continues to be discussed on social media.
