When Chinese archaeologists excavated a tomb that "emitted a fragrant scent", suspicions arose that this was the burial place of Princess Ham Huong. However, the conclusions about famous women in Chinese history surprised everyone.
For the generation of Vietnamese television viewers in 1998, the names Tieu Yen Tu, Ha Tu Vy, Ngu A Ca or Ham Huong have become proof of the irresistible appeal of the movie "Hoan Chau Cach Cach". ".
The TV series ended a long time ago but still left an indelible mark in the public's hearts over the past 23 years. The "legendary" hat of Princess Ham Huong has also become a childhood memory for many people.
A particularly impressive detail in "Hoan Chau Cach Cach" is the scene where Ham Huong dances in the flower garden and hundreds of butterfly wings flutter back and wrap around the beauty's dress.
The character Ham Huong or Huong Phi in the movie is a princess from Hui Cuong (now Xinjiang). Although Ham Huong loves the brave warrior Mong Diem, she still has to follow her father's will to become a concubine of Emperor Qian. Long. Since birth, Princess Hui Cuong has had an extremely seductive natural fragrance, each time she dances she attracts bees and butterflies from thousands of miles away.
However, in Chinese history there is no record of a woman named Ham Huong. Based on the information passed down, historical experts compared and found similarities with Phi Dung - one of the concubines most loved by King Qianlong. Indeed, both Ham Huong and Dung Phi came from a different race.
Specifically, Phi Dung is a Uighur who was married to the man who led the campaign against the Qing Dynasty in Xinjiang. Because he did not want Xinjiang to disintegrate, Dung Phi's brother, Do Nhi, cooperated with the Qing army to quell the rebellion. Establishing a great success, Do Nhi was allowed by Qianlong to lead his family to the royal palace for an audience. So, Tu Nhi took his family to visit Emperor Qianlong. Among these people is Dung Phi. Because of her outstanding appearance, at the age of 27, she was brought into the palace by Qianlong and became a "Hoa Noble".
Although it looked like a political marriage, Qianlong liked this Uyghur "Noble Man" very much. It is said that when the "Noble One" first came to the palace, the lychee trees planted in the south of the palace all flowered on the same day.
Everyone thought it was a good omen brought by "Hoa Nhan". Therefore, not only did the emperor like her, but the other concubines and the queen mother all thought she was a good person. Therefore, just three years after entering the palace, the Queen Mother personally ordered her to be appointed "Dung Concubine". Not only that, she also took on an official title for her brother, and was appointed Father of the Country.
Qianlong's love for Dung does not stop there. During Qianlong's fourth tour to the South, more than 1,000 people accompanied him. To please her while on the trip, Qian Long ordered no less than 80 dishes in total. The Emperor really liked this beautiful woman, as her title was "Dung".
In June of the 33rd year of Qianlong, the Queen Mother once again issued an edict promoting Dung concubine to Dung concubine. And prepare many gifts for her. Through this, we can see that Dung Phi is not exactly the same as "Huong Phi". In the movie, because of her cold personality, she was not liked by the Queen Mother. When Qianlong's Empress Na La Thi died of illness, the emperor's favorite concubine also passed away not long after.
After announcing the hypothesis that Ham Huong and Dung Phi were one person, the academic community unanimously agreed with this hypothesis. Although her identity is considered clear, the secret of her special scent that can attract bees and butterflies is still considered a folk tale. It was not until Ham Huong's tomb was found that the truth was gradually clarified.
Nowadays, there is a mausoleum of Concubine Huong in Xinjiang, and many people go there to worship. However, there is no actual Huong Phi mausoleum there. Because Huong Phi did not exist in history, the mausoleum is of course fake. In fact, after Concubine Dung passed away, she was buried with Qianlong at the Eastern Tomb of the Qing Dynasty.
According to Baike , Concubine Dung's tomb in Xinjiang is 2 hectares wide, and the gong is decorated with blue lapis lazuli tiles. The main mausoleum has a 26m high dome roof. Many details inside the mausoleum are covered with colorful tiles with unique Islamic decoration. Based on the bone fragments as well as remaining clues, experts concluded that the owner of the tomb was a white man.
The style of this mausoleum is typically Islamic, and experts speculate that it is the mausoleum of Concubine Dung. Due to the constant rumors about Huong Phi in history, her tomb naturally attracted a lot of "visits" from grave robbers.
When experts opened Dung Phi's tomb, they discovered that it had been looted by tomb robbers. They could only conduct research based on the few remaining clues, the remaining bones for saw the owner was a white man.
In fact, most of the things about strange scents are just historical rumors. But if it is true, some experts speculate that it may be because Concubine Dung is a Uyghur, and their culture has a habit of using scents. Over time, Dung Phi's body naturally became contaminated with scent.
In addition, the scent emanating from the coffin may be due to the herbs marinated in the body or the smell of the wood used to make the coffin, but this scent cannot be used to determine the identity of the owner of the tomb. To this day, the true identity of the beauty in the fragrant tomb is still a great mystery in Chinese history.
