Miss Universe 2024: Ky Duyen unexpectedly received good news after half a month, Vietnamese fans are proud

Nearly half a month after the Miss Universe 2024 finale in Mexico, the contest organizers announced the results of the Best National Costume vote.

Surpassing more than 100 contestants, Vietnamese representative Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen with the costume "Ngoc Diep Ky Nam" entered the Top 3 and ranked 3rd. The number 1 position belonged to the representative of the Philippines, the number 2 position belonged to the representative of Chile. This is the first time Vietnam has achieved this achievement at the Miss Universe contest.

"Ngoc Diep Ky Nam" is Ky Duyen's national costume designed by Dang Tran Tri and advised by Nguyen Minh Cong. The design was inspired by the butterfly parasol of the Nguyen Dynasty in the 20th century, honoring the ingenuity and meticulousness of ancient artisans.

The outfit combines the traditional Nhat Binh shirt with hand-embroidered details and sparkling stones, helping Ky Duyen recreate the image of an elegant, shy but still noble royal woman. The parasol opens when performing, creating the image of a "cocoon turning into a butterfly", symbolizing Ky Duyen's transformation through ups and downs, rising strongly to move towards a bright future.

The design uses pink, purple and blue as the main colors. The butterfly motifs are cleverly arranged on the wings to create a vivid effect, like an art painting moving with each rotation of Ky Duyen.

In the Best National Costume competition at the Miss Universe 2024 semi-final night, Ky Duyen's performance with "Ngoc Diep Ky Nam" left an impression on the audience. Notably, at the final night, the contest's backstage MC Zuri Hall "borrowed" the "Butterfly Parasol" umbrella in Ky Duyen's costume to host the sho.w when appearing on live television.

Ky Duyen was moved when she saw this image again. She shared: "When I saw the image of the 'Butterfly Parasol' appearing on the Miss Universe 2024 final stage, held by Ms. Zuri Hall, I was moved. Vietnam's National Costume has really made its mark on the international stage!".

Previously, this National Costume also encountered many difficulties, when the suitcase containing the costumes was unexpectedly lost, while Ky Duyen was moving from the hotel to the stage area.

Along with the achievement of entering the Top 30/125 contestants of Miss Universe 2024, the title of Top 3 Best National Costume is a proud result for Ky Duyen at "the world's most fierce beauty arena" Miss Universe, especially after 2 consecutive years of Vietnam's representative failing in this competition.

After the final night, Ky Duyen shared on her personal page: "My dream has been completely fulfilled. Top 30 Miss Universe 2024. I am really proud of myself for contributing a small part to my beloved Vietnam. And because this year's Miss Universe competition was so fierce with 130 contestants from different places, and everyone was strong."

She thanked the audience for their support and love. Ky Duyen said she would pack her bags and return home soon. In the comments section of her post, many Vietnamese stars sent words of encouragement and congratulations to Ky Duyen on her achievements.

Thus, Ky Duyen is the last Vietnamese representative to participate in a contest in the "Big 6" (the 6 largest beauty contests) in 2024. Before her, Miss Thanh Thuy was crowned Miss International 2024, Mai Phuong entered the top 40 of Miss World, and Vietnamese representatives in major beauty contests such as Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International, Miss Earth were all eliminated in the finals.

Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen was born in 1996, from Nam Dinh, 1m76 tall, was crowned Miss Vietnam 2014 and Miss Universe Vietnam 2024. Before leaving for Mexico, Ky Duyen expressed her strong determination and careful investment in her journey to conquer the title of Miss Universe 2024. This has also been her dream for the past 10 years - to shout out the words "Vietnam" in the international arena.
