Marcele Seippel: Xuan Son's wife dropped out of school with her husband, afraid of motorbikes in Vietnam

Nguyen Xuan Son is the face that attracts the most attention of the Vietnamese team at the 2024 ASEAN Cup when leading the list of Top Scorers with 7 goals after only 4 matches.

The Brazilian-born striker said that one of the motivations that helped him play well was the support from his wife, children and family. During the past home matches of the Vietnamese team, his wife, two sons and Xuan Son's parents were always present to fuel him.

Xuan Son's wife, Marcele Seippel, was born in 1999, is the first daughter in a family of three children in the state of Salvador, Brazil. Her father is a chef, her mother works in the commercial industry, but the family's income mainly comes from a pizzeria. Knowing that the future "auxiliary music and model music" is in need of a nimble and resourceful "shipper", Xuan Son finds a way to win his heart.

Xuan Son and Marcele first met at a Christmas party at a friend's house when they were both teenagers. Just met, Son had a crush on the blonde gir.l, but Marcele was quite indifferent to him. After a few meetings, Son decided to confess his love but was rejected by her.

"I was only 15 years old at the time, and I wanted to focus on my studies. But more importantly, I don't want to date a player," Marcele said the reason for rejecting Xuan Son.

After a failed confession, Xuan Son was not discouraged, determined to conquer the heart of the beauty. Every day after practice, he comes to the house to help Marcele bake or make deliveries. His sincerity gradually made her vibrate and they became each other's first love.

In 2018, the two got married when Marcele had just entered college. In the same year, Son received an invitation to play for Vegalta Sendai Club, Japan.

"I thought I could continue my studies at any time, but love for him is only one in my life," she said about her choice to drop out of school with her husband going abroad. That bold decision of Marcele actually did not go smoothly in the first stage. Because right at the training session for the first match on Japanese soil, Xuan Son was seriously injured and had to take a long-term break from competition.

During the time her husband was in the hospital bed, Marcele had to manage everything by herself, while taking care of, encouraging and helping her husband with personal hygiene. 6 months later, Xuan Son was able to practice recovery. Marcele admits it was a very difficult time. But she realized Xuan Son's determination to tell her heart not to give up, trying to overcome difficulties.

Unable to meet the professional requirements in the land of the rising sun, Xuan Son decided to go to Denmark to compete. He only scored 4 goals in 18 games and this club had to be relegated. At the end of 2019, Xuan Son went to Vietnam, opening a new page in his career. Son started at Nam Dinh Club and then joined Da Nang, Binh Dinh before returning to the Thanh Nam football team in 2023.

In the 2023-2024 season, Xuan Son entered the history of the V-League as the player who scored the most goals in a season, with 31 times putting the ball into the opponent's net. He and Nam Dinh won the V-League, won the title of Top Scorer and entered the typical squad of the season. In addition, Xuan Son also won the title of Excellent Player and is the owner of the title of the most beautiful goal in the tournament.

Since coming to Vietnam, Marcele has stayed at home to take care of housewives and children to help her husband play with peace of mind. Xuan Son and his wife have two sons, 3-year-old Matteo and 1-year-old Lucca. Currently, his family has adapted to life in Vietnam and considers this as a second home.

Ms. Marcele confided, when I first came to Vietnam, it took me two weeks to have the courage to walk on the road. "I've never seen so many motorcycles, so I'm scared," Marcele said. "But the friendliness of the Vietnamese people and the climate close to my hometown of Brazil helped me adapt early. What I am most dissatisfied with so far is that after 5 years in Vietnam, I still don't speak much Vietnamese."

When her husband plays football, Marcele takes care of housework, cooks, cleans, learns to adapt to a new life, and makes friends with Vietnamese people. There was a period when Marcele was pregnant, the Covid-19 epidemic broke out. The isolation due to the epidemic made the young couple stressed, but they felt lucky to have the help of Vietnamese friends.

After the semi-final match against Singapore on Viet Tri field, on his personal page, Nguyen Xuan Son praised his wife as a platform for his successes. "I am very important to you when you always believe in me, to be with me in every bad and best moment of my life. You are my best choice. I have always loved you like that."

Indeed, for the past 10 years, Marcele Seippel has always accompanied her husband in every step of her career. Even when he is injured or when he steps on the top of glory, Xuan Son has a wife and children to watch.

Before the final of the first leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Xuan Son knelt down and offered his wife a proposal at the hotel where the Vietnamese team was stationed - something he did not do 6 years ago. The romantic and sweet moment with his wife seemed to give him more mental strength to help him compete sublimely when he scored a double to help the Vietnamese team win 2-1.
