Manh Dinh: Had to go to the US to pack goods, suddenly succeeded with 20 USD from his mother, a "late" love story with fans

Manh Dinh never thought that he would continue to pursue art and become a much-loved singer when he moved abroad to settle down, although at that time he was already a nightly singer in Vietnam.

Manh Dinh has been passionate about singing since childhood, but during his years of professional activities in Vietnam as a singer, he still did not make a name for himself. In 1993, Manh Dinh followed his family to the US to settle down and quickly became famous abroad. However, in the early days in a foreign country, Manh Dinh was extremely disappointed and lost.

Happy to apply for a "temporary" job

Sharing about the time of settling abroad, Manh Dinh said: "The first days in the US were very sad. My mother was also sad because housewives often go to the market in the morning and talk to each other, but now they can't. .

Mom said, I feel lonely, so lonely. As for me, my job is to sing every night, and it's sad to come here now. I asked my mother to come back. Mom said, just eat all the allowance and go home (laughs).

He added: "I applied for a job. I studied English in Vietnam, but I still went to the US to study and then apply for jobs in restaurants and businesses.

Wherever you apply for a job, people also ask you to have work experience in the US. I just passed, have no experience so nowhere to accept. I think, if they don't give me the opportunity to do it, how can I get experience?

I'm so happy that I finally got to work for a business specializing in the business of selling electric light bulbs. My job is to count 10 light bulbs and put them in a bag, then put them in a box, and label them. Because I have no experience, other people work 40 hours/week, I work 15, 16 hours/week. That is to work temporarily, have some money to live."

Famous from mother's 20 USD

After working for about 9, 10 months, Manh Dinh was advised by his mother to take a singing contest. Manh Dinh said, in the 1990s, the Vietnamese community in the US held singing competitions.

"In Vietnam, I sing professionally, but no one here knows who I am", listening to his mother's advice, Manh Dinh ignored his ego to take the exam, because he thought he was a singer himself. When a professional doctor was in Vietnam, he was embarrassed to take the exam now.

He confided: "At that time, the exam fee was 20 USD. In 1993, that amount was very large. My mother gave me 20 USD to pay for the exam. During the preliminary night, the great musicians there said: 'Forever. Until today, I have only found a voice with a homeland sound from Vietnam, so Manh Dinh will be at the top of the list tonight'.

I'm very happy to hear that. At that time, I thought simply, the sponsor would give the singer who ranked first that night 100 USD. I think, if I get 100 USD, I'm happy, if I pay my mother 20 USD, I will make 80 USD."

At that time, Manh Dinh preferred manual labor because he hoped that in the future, from a temporary job, he would have a long-term job and have a stable life with this job.

"Some people say: You are famous, you can't sit here, here and there invite you. I said: But I like this place, sing whatever you want, I still come here to work with you, very happy. But when I became famous, I realized that they were right," said Manh Dinh, humorously.

After the contest, Manh Dinh became a phenomenon loved by the audience. He received attention from major overseas record centers and was contracted to produce.

Manh Dinh considers himself a poor diplomat, so after every performance, he prefers to go home to rest instead of gathering and having fun.

Referring to Manh Dinh's career, it is impossible not to mention the song "The story of the heavens". This song has created a name for Manh Dinh not only overseas but also loved by domestic audiences.

Having his current career, Manh Dinh feels extremely appreciated and grateful for the love of audiences everywhere for him.

In fourth grade, when asked by the teacher to recite or sing to answer the song, Manh Dinh confidently chose to sing instead of reciting like his classmates. Despite being very young, Manh Dinh was still very confident in performing the song Autumn Dead and received a score of 9.5 from the teacher, much higher than his classmates.

Since then, Manh Dinh began to realize and feel his talent and love for music. In high school, he was appointed head of the school's arts department. Later, he entered a vocal school to gain more knowledge and skills in singing.

The current life

At the age of 60, Manh Dinh found late love with his girlfriend. The two have known each other for 4 years, still passionately attached but determined not to get married.

The male singer confided: "I've been dating a girlfriend in Vietnam for 4 years. She's been my fan, from loving my voice to falling in love when it's not good. We still call every day. Calling, texting and giving each other the same care as any other couple.

Every time I return home, I take advantage of spending time with her. I plan to bring my girlfriend back to introduce my family in America next year. We believe that love affairs should not be considered far away, just cherishing the present moment is enough.

We both define each other as lovers, or rather "soulmates". At this age, I don't even think about getting married. I prefer a love relationship rather than being bound by a marriage certificate.

The thing that I and my girlfriend have in common is that they are both old and broken, so meeting each other is considered a predestined relationship. We are also self-conscious about preserving our feelings, thinking for ourselves and for each other. There are things if I don't like the other person, too. From such small things to understand that everything needs to be shared and relied on, especially with love at this age."
