After many days of waiting for fans, Lisa finally officially made a solo comeback with ROCKSTAR. Investing "all-in" for the first song made at the new company LLOUD, this is both an opportunity and a challenge for Blackpink members.
However, the song was released not long ago and was entangled in a series of serious controversies. Despite achieving high results thanks to strong fandom, ROCKSTAR still disappointed the public.
Among the controversies surrounding Lisa and the new product, the most prominent is the issue of lyrics. Trying her hand at writing music for the first time, with lyrics entirely in English, Lisa has not been able to convince hardcore music fans. ROCKSTAR was complained about by nonsensical lyrics, revolving around the theme of "flex yourself" but less appealing.
On forums, music fans constantly make negative comments about Lisa's new song. The Thai female idol repeats simple rap verses, including cultural elements in the rap in a superficial way. The modern, catchy mix of the international team also does not "save" the quality is too poor in terms of content.
ROCKSTAR is flashy, ostentatious, but slippery. In addition to the vanity that the owner himself is aiming for, the song completely makes English rap listeners question mark.
In the face of criticism directed at idols, Lilies (Lisa's own fans) tried to protect her. To refute the clichéd and meaningless criticism of ROCKSTAR, fans practiced analyzing the implications that Lisa inserted through the rap lyrics. Specifically, on the X platform (Twitter) is currently viral, a post by 1 Lilies interpreting Lisa's rap lyrics. Accordingly, this person affirmed that Lisa was not superficial when writing ROCKSTAR, listeners had to be subtle to realize the message.
Some notable rap verses can be mentioned such as "Gold teeth sittin' on the dash, she a rockstar; Make you favorite singer want to rap, baby, lala" (translation: Golden teeth on the console, make your favorite artist want to rap). In this segment, fan Lisa explained that the Thai female idol was trying to mention that she was often criticized for "stealing Jennie's rap line in BLACKPINK's songs".
But in fact, Jennie didn't want to rap for years (Jennie once gave an interview about being oriented to be a rapper. The fact that this post only refers to Jennie as an implying that Lisa "talked" about her sister in the group because of a dispute over rap time in the past.
And yet, Lisa's fans also interpreted ROCKSTAR's rap lyrics with the intention of deliberately bringing BLACKPINK down. Specifically, in the sentence "Been MIA, BKK so pretty; Every city that I go is my city" (translation: I went to MIA, BKK is beautiful; Every city I pass through is my city), this person Lisa wants to respond to the opinion that she is lazy, only travels the world.
Meanwhile, Lisa works harder in silence, more than any BLACKPINK member. Therefore, Lisa's influence is the greatest, everywhere. Lisa covers everywhere, as they say "BLACKPINK in the area". Thai female idols can do this only with personal fame.
In addition, the rap line "Been on a mission, boy, they call me catch-and-kill" is interpreted in the sense of "diss" YG. In which, "arrest" and "kill" are two slang words that are often used by the media to prevent a flow of information from leaking. Lisa's fans speculated that the female idol had to sign a confidentiality contract before leaving YG. She had many dissatisfactions but could not say.
The post explaining the above lyrics was responded to by many "monolithic" Lisa fans. But for the majority, the move sparked another serious controversy. Many people think that Lisa's fans have overvalued the idol, deliberately speculating baselessly.
In addition to arguing about the lyrics, Lisa was recently accused of plagiarism by a male rapper team.
Accordingly, Gabriel Moses - who filmed the MV FE! Travis Scott's N mentioned the accusation that Lisa plagiarized the MV right on the IG story. Specifically, the guy constantly posts about the same image between the FE MV! N and ROCKSTAR, along with a screenshot of an email accusing Lisa of plagiarism. Gabriel Moses talked about the ROCKSTAR MV in an unfriendly tone, even "laughing" at bringing black culture into the product.
Lisa's fans tried to protect the idol, saying that it was impossible to confirm that the ROCKSTAR MV was plagiarized when the above idea was extremely popular in hip-hop MVs. But this explanation cannot convince the majority.
Observing closely, it can be seen that Lisa's crew deployed a scene of 100 dancers with a composition, camera angles and movements that are almost 90% similar to Travis Scott's MV. Both are built in white tones that fill the screen, Travis Scott's dancers are also Asian. There is undeniably a certain reference in the two scenes.
American crews are extremely sensitive to the problem of copying and plagiarizing gray matter. Therefore, the fact that Travis Scott's team pointed out Lisa, with the argument of agreeing with the plagiarism allegation, will make the Thai female idol "struggle" in the American advancement.
Currently, Gabriel Moses' post is being widely shared by rap fans on the X platform (Twitter). Signs of copying are difficult to deny, many people are concerned that Lisa will be entangled in legal disputes if Travis Scott's team decides to "make a big deal".
