BLACKPINK recently made history as the third girl group to ever appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. Here, they opened up to share deeper, unknown topics about the life of the group as well as each member. One of them was the lack of self-confidence that Lisa felt when she was a new singer.
Specifically, Lisa shared, "The whole year between 'As If It's Your Last' [2017] and 'DDU-DU DDU-DU' [2018] was difficult for me.". She lost her voice along with her confidence.
"I couldn't sing. When I went to the studio to record, I couldn't say anything. I cried," Lisa said.
Lisa didn't explain exactly what made her feel this way, but it heavily influenced her thinking. She thought about her members and worried that she would delay filming for their next comeback: "I feel like I'm bringing the team down."
Thankfully, she was able to get better with the help of BLACKPINK's lead producer, Teddy. She assumed he had coaxed her out of her shell. His unyielding love helped her bounce back from her lowest point.
"Teddy pushed me through: 'Can't you? It's not. Try harder. Let's go back there.' Because of Teddy, I got through that time," Lisa said.
Lisa also mentioned that Teddy is a mentor that helps the group do better as a musician. As Jennie added, the tension they feel every time he pushes them to improve their music is "a good tension that BLACKPINK needs."
"Oppa directs all of BLACKPINK. He knows us very well. He motivates us a lot. 'Once again, again, again,' he would say." - Lisa.
Previously, when working as a choreographer on the Chinese show " Youth With You", a Vlog about Lisa's first working day was shared. In it, she did the first task of going through all the profiles of the candidates.
According to Koreaboo, in the files, there are letters from contestants expressing concern about being lonely during the competition. Someone said that they have been away from home for 10 years, trying their best to compete, but have never had the desired success. There are also contestants lamenting that if they don't pass the program this time, they will have to return home...
The autobiographical words worried Lisa. The female idol decided to write a letter to the trainees, telling about her experiences as a trainee. She said, it took her 5 years of training to debut. She knows, being a trainee is really hard.
Thai beauty recalls, she experienced scary and difficult feelings like the contestants of the show are going through. For Lisa, it was even more difficult when she had to move to a foreign country, where she had no family nearby, as well as the language barrier.
"I can totally understand all of you, because I went through that experience too. When I was 14 years old, I wanted to be a singer. I left my family and went to a foreign country on my own. as a trainee. I went through high-level training and had to overcome language barriers," the Black Pink member confessed.
According to Lisa, living in an environment with a completely foreign language and culture, she only knows how to try every day. She tries to catch up with the Korean-speaking trainees. But no matter how hard she tries, there are times when she feels weak and homesick.
"Many times, I secretly cried while lying in bed because I was so homesick," Lisa shared.
However, what she can do is continue to persevere. Fortunately, after 5 years, she was released as the main dancer of Black Pink - the group that is now world famous.
"5 years is too long, but I don't give up. I believe, you can do the same. On the way to trying to achieve your dreams, you will encounter many obstacles. However, any No matter what you face, I hope you keep moving forward," the Thai-born singer said.
