Kneeling has officially opened on Douban with a score of 6.4 â an average rating that surprised many people. Previously, the film was expected to become a "blockbuster" thanks to its young cast.
Knocked Back was adapted from a famous novel with many intriguing elements. However, after half of its broadcast, Knocked Back showed signs of decline, with daily views dropping from a peak of 52 million to just 42 million, completely overshadowed by its rival, Hidden Sea Story. So what is the reason why Knocked Back gradually lost its appeal?
Kneeling has a promising start with the marriage scene between the beautiful and intelligent young lady Tieu Kieu (Tong To Nhi) and the talented military mandarin Wei Thieu (Liu Vu Ninh). Unlike the original, which was originally light-hearted, the screenwriter added many elements of strategy and struggle to increase the drama. The first episodes give the feeling that this is not simply a romance film but also contains hidden political conspiracies worth following.
But later on, Kneeling Back went in the old direction, focusing too much on the "marry first, love later" love story of the main couple. The elements of intelligence and intrigue that were expected were just a thin foundation, even considered "childish" and lacking in logic. Details such as burning the granary, using a few words to handle everything... were criticized by the audience as illogical, reducing the persuasiveness of the plot. Instead of exploiting the character's intellectual depth, the film turned the female lead into someone who likes to "pretend to be sick - act spoiled", and political intrigue was just an excuse to push love forward.
The inconsistency between the original ambition and the actual content left the audience feeling disappointed. Many commented that instead of a film that mixed intrigue and romance, Kneeling gradually became a "regular historical romance", lacking real breakthroughs and climaxes.
Many viewers pointed out mistakes that caused this project to lose viewers in the later stages, affecting the score.
"Personally, I find the film a bit bland and lacking in clima.x. The first few episodes were really good, but later on, it failed to maintain the "seriousness" it should have with the plot setup and character relationships. The feeling later on was too predictable, so this point is not surprising. But I still have to admit that Song Zu Er is beautiful and acts very well" - a viewer shared.
"It's easy to understand why the movie has a low Douban score. The beginning of the movie is quite good and has a clima.x, but in the middle of the movie, the plot is just average, bland, and not engaging enough" - another audience member commented.
"At first, I really supported the show, but from episode 8 onwards, the show became bland. The director lacked thought. The clips had to be connected or have reasonable and subtle transitions, but the director changed scenes, the content was inappropriate, the characters had no clear story or color..." - the audience continued to evaluate.
"With this movie, the Douban score is also quite correct, the beginning of the movie is quite good but the later it gets more and more boring, the majority of the compliments focus on the beauty of the female lead" - the audience commented further.
Thus, based on the audience's reviews, it can be seen that the biggest weakness of the movie "Hunchback" lies in the "elephant head, mouse tail" script. Initially, the movie opened well and was engaging, both female leads Tong To Nhi and Liu Vu Ninh were praised. However, as time went on, "Hunchback" became less attractive, the plot was long-winded, unfocused and inappropriately arranged.
One of the other objective reasons why Kneeling has lost its popularity is the appearance of a formidable competitor â The Legend of the Sea. With a powerful crew including famous director Trinh Hieu Long, top star Tieu Chien and a series of famous actors, The Legend of the Sea immediately attracted the attention of a large audience.
Although Tang Hai Truyen is not considered an excellent martial arts film like Lang Nha Bang or Khanh Du Nien, with its investment and quality actors, the film still maintains a certain appeal.
Song Zu Er's comeback was "suppressed", paired with an "ugly" male lead, losing chemistry? Moon17:01:24 20/05/2025Since its airing, Kneeling, starring Song Zu Er, has set many impressive records in the film industry. Originally a heartbreaking film that would make audiences cry, fans were surprised by the male lead's unsightly appearance.
