Doraemon Movie 44 'crushed' Vietnamese movies, but was 'miserably harmed' by Salim and his wife

After 2 days of early screening, the power of Doraemon fans has overwhelmed the audience. After only the first day of ticket sales, the film has reached a revenue of 9.5 billion VND. Thanks to the strong opening numbers, the film has quickly "crushed" the Vietnamese blockbusters of recent times.

Although it has not officially premiered and only opened for sale for a few special tickets on May 17-18, Doraemon: Nobita and the Adventures in the Picture World has made an impressive achievement at Vietnamese theaters. According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam , the Japanese film has earned nearly 30 billion VND.

On May 18 alone, the film earned about VND15 billion, with 150,000 tickets sold out of a total of 3,000 screenings. This achievement appears to overwhelm the competition currently showing in theaters. In fact, the above figure is not surprising for a famous film brand like Doraemon. In recent years, the series of movies about the fat cat has continuously swept the Vietnamese box office, achieving very impressive revenue.

Returning to Doraemon: Nobita and the Adventures in the Picture World , this is the 44th part in the movie series about the intelligent robot cat. The story begins when Claire - the princess of the kingdom of Artoria - suddenly appears in the modern world, inviting Doraemon's group of friends to her picture world. Here, they must face an ancient legend that is rising, carrying evil power and ambition to destroy both worlds.

However, contrary to the humane content of Doraemon, netizens are extremely upset with the voice actors, especially Salim and his wife. On May 19, a representative of Tagger - the unit that publishes and holds the copyright of the Doraemon brand in Vietnam - sent a letter to the fans of the robot cat after receiving a series of negative feedback from the audience about the voice acting of guests such as Xa Xi, Salim and Long Hat Nhai in the movie Doraemon: Nobita and the adventure into the world in the picture.

In the film, Salim and Long Hat Nhai voice the king and queen of the kingdom of Asteria , while little Xa Xi plays Mairo - a talented child artist and one of the central characters of the film.

Many opinions on social networks say that Vietnamese dubbing sounds like recitation, lacks emotion, ruins the experience and makes it difficult for viewers to empathize with the characters.

Under pressure from the online community, a representative of Tagger - the distributor of the Doraemon brand in Vietnam - shared that they have forwarded all of these opinions to the film's copyright holder in Japan and are working on the distribution ratio between subtitled and dubbed screenings.

Tagger asserted that replacing the current voice cast is unlikely, as post-production and distribution have already been completed.

However, this unit has committed to increasing the number of subtitled screenings, especially in the provinces. This is being urgently negotiated and arranged.

Tagger also sent a message to the voiceover guests who are facing backlash, expressing regret and taking responsibility for their unsatisfactory choices: "We are heartbroken that Xa Xi or Salim and Long Hat Nhai have to endure such backlash. They do not deserve to have to endure such a sad memory just because of our lack of thoughtfulness."

Despite receiving many objections, Tagger hopes that the Doraemon fan community will continue to maintain a positive spirit, unite and together create a warm space for all those who love the robot cat from the future.

Important plot points such as Claire's true identity, Isel's origin, or the disappearance of characters in the painting are handled a bit hastily, lacking emotional depth.

The fact that Nobita's father - Mr. Nobi - is a talented artist who "hides his skills" has not been exploited, although it is a very interesting story branch in the original manga series by the Fujiko Fujio duo.

In addition, the villain Isel - despite his impressive appearance, reminiscent of the monster Worm Face from Elden Ring - is still quite vague in terms of origin and motive. He is the embodiment of darkness, but it is unclear why he was born, why he needs to be defeated by painting.

This makes the final battle more action-oriented than emotional. Some supporting characters like Milo or Pal, although interesting, are not fully exploited, causing great regret for the audience.
