On December 25, BLACKPINK's Jennie shared a video titled " Happy Holidays" on her official website. According to her, this short video is a special content created for her fans.
As Jennie entered the theater, a video began to play, showcasing various moments from the past year. It was a time to reminisce and reflect on the memories she shared with her fans. Jennie described 2024 as âa year of significant change for me,â revealin.g, âI grew up a lot, especially after participating in the production of Mantra.â
In the clip, the BLACKPINK member also shared plans for her upcoming album, scheduled for release next year: "After 11 months of work, I've achieved results that I'm really satisfied with. The album will have a completely new sound."
The album explores a variety of musical genres, aiming to be a "buffet for everyone." Jennie delighted fans by revealin.g that some of the songs were collaborations with other artists.
Jennie shared, "I've expressed chapters of my life through music. I hope this album will bring me closer to my fans and I want to surprise you in a positive way." The singer added to fans' anticipation by adding, "I'm excited to finally release the work I've been working on for the entire year of 2024." More details about the new album will be revealed later.
On October 11, Jennie released a single called Mantra. This is also the product marking the singer's comeback after 8 years since the song SOLO. It is known that Mantra is just the first "firework" in the new album that Jennie is about to release.
Upon its release, Jennie's Mantra quickly swept through all the famous domestic and international music charts. Notably, Jennie's Mantra had previously officially appeared on the Billboard HO.T 100 chart at number 98.
However, the joy did not last long when Jennie's song Mantra was suddenly banned by KBS. The female singer's song Mantra did not meet the requirements to pass the censorship to be broadcast on Korea's largest television station, KBS. Specifically, the reason given was because the song Mantra mentioned a brand name, which was not suitable for broadcasting.
After this information was spread, the online community did not seem too surprised because KBS has always been famous for having many strict regulations when it comes to censoring music. Before Jennie, many artists were banned from KBS because their songs contained sensitive words or mentioned details that were not suitable for broadcasting.
Previously, Jennie had 3 quite successful promotional stages for the song Mantra on MBC's MusicCore, M COUNTDOWN and on Jimmy Kimmel's show.
As for Rose, the female idol's situation is not much better. Despite being conceived for more than a year, containing many thoughts, sweat and tears of Rosé (BlackPink), the female idol's album Rosie is still not highly appreciated by experts.
On December 19, Pitchfork - an American music review magazine - gave the album Rosie a 5.5/10 score, saying that "instead of presenting a fresh image of Rosé, this product relies on old references and vague pain."
Pitchfork said Rosé had a successful opening with the mega-hit APT. featuring Bruno Mars. However, that form did not continue for Rosie: "The main story of emotional heartbreak seems to be just experimenting with different musical styles.
Toxic till the end is a dry synth-pop track that opens a four-song sequence with a variety of unfamiliar but unclear genres. Additionally, the synth bass line is reminiscent of Taylor Swift's 1989 album.
Musically, Pitchfork commented that Rosie is nothing new and that it bears the shadow of pop music in recent years.
