Ho Ngoc Trinh: Shining with a cross-legged role, the young generation fuels the art of Cheo

With a "naturally gifted" voice, People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh "fell in love" with singing at the age of 14 when she worked with the Cultural Center of Moc Hoa district at that time. To help her family, she went to school and sang to earn income.

Seeing that his niece had a beautiful voice, her uncle, who was a musician, advised her to try "crossing over" to Cai Luong. He was the first teacher who guided her in breathing and rhythm when singing. From that basic knowledge, she continued to study on her own to gradually form her own "quality".

In 2001, at her uncle's encouragement, she participated in the Television Singing Contest organized by Long An Radio and Television Station, won the highest prize and caught the attention of the leaders of the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe at that time.

What makes audiences everywhere remember Ho Ngoc Trinh, besides her gentle beauty and sweet voice, is her ability to transform into a character. Although she is very suitable for the roles of the female lead, she can handle other roles well, from the powerful and inner-torn Queen Mother Duong Van Nga to the life of the revolutionary heroine Nguyen Thi Mot from her youth to her old age,... By exploiting the inner thoughts and personalities of the characters, she creates a unique and unmistakable style.

And even though she has become famous, has many opportunities, and has become a famous artist, she still decided to stick with the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe, supporting and assisting her "junior" artists every day on the journey to preserve the traditional art form.

For her, coming to Cai Luong was an important turning point and currently, Cai Luong is an indispensable part of Ho Ngoc Trinh. The greatest luck of the female artist on this journey is being loved by the profession, meeting and becoming a student of teachers who are passionate about this traditional art form.

The female artist still remembers the dedicated instructions of Meritorious Artist Huu Loc on the first day she started working at the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe. Later, she became a student of Dr. People's Artist Bach Tuyet and People's Artist Vien Chau. That was a great fortune in the female artist's career.

Thanks to being able to approach, become a student and work with many "big names" in the profession, she learned a lot of experience, had more motivation to strive and improve herself to be able to contribute more to the traditional art of her homeland.

Any career requires effort to achieve success. The same goes for the female artist’s artistic path, which has almost never been smooth. Although she had the opportunity to study with good teachers, the time to study and exchange with them was often not much. From each teacher, she learned a little good things and gathered them as her own luggage.

Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh always tells herself that because she is loved by her ancestors, she must give her all. Throughout her career, she has never dared to stop studying, because that would easily make her stagnate in the midst of a life that is always changing and developing.

Since joining the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe, Ho Ngoc Trinh has been both active and continuing her cultural studies in the evenings. After graduating from high school, many colleagues advised her to take the university entrance exam for Directing because they "saw that she had the ability". At that time, she was still very hesitant and did not have enough confidence in herself.

But Ho Ngoc Trinh thinks that studying is the only way to develop herself and continue to contribute to her career, so she prepares for the university entrance exam. Graduating from university with honors, she has more motivation to study for a Master of Arts and is in the process of defending her thesis.

She studied and worked at the same time, together with her fellow artists in the troupe, she fulfilled her duty of serving the people and participated in regional and national "arenas". She took on the role of Deputy Head of the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe in 2016. In 2018, the troupe merged into the Provincial Cultural and Art Center, she was the Deputy Director of the Center, Head of the Cai Luong Art Troupe. The merger into the Center caused the initial activities of the Cai Luong Art Troupe to be somewhat limited. She often encouraged her fellow artists to strive to do their best, and the difficulties gradually passed.

In 2021, with the attention and support of the provincial leaders, the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe officially returned to independent operation, from which the artists had favorable and suitable conditions to develop themselves and feel secure in their dedication. The new plays staged by the troupe all won gold medals and special prizes at national cai luong festivals. Recently, Ben dong Long Khot - a new play in which the main roles were all performed by young artists, received the Dao Tan award. Ho Ngoc Trinh and other artists also staged the play Truyen tich Nang Thom, combining cai luong and circus to participate in the International Experimental Theater Festival.

She thinks that to maintain the love of the audience, Cai Luong must constantly develop, renew itself, and adapt to the trends and tastes of the audience. The word "cai luong" originally means to change to become better! Accordingly, People's Artist Hoai Thu (Hanoi Cheo Theater) and People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh (Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe) are the two youngest artists to receive the title of People's Artist in this award ceremony. People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh was born on December 30, 1984. She "fell in love" with singing at the age of 14. After that, she returned to Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe to work and has been with it until now.

People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh is known for her deep, sweet and powerful voice. She left her mark with the roles: Co Nam Dien (play Nghia si Can Giuoc), Yen Nuong (play Kep hat lam vua), Nguyen Thi Ut (Cuoc doi cua me),... As Deputy Head of the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe, People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh has made great contributions in leading the troupe to "fight" in many festivals, stage performances, and professional Cai Luong, achieving many successes. She is also the co-director of two famous Cai Luong plays at two recent National Cai Luong Festivals: Cuoc doi cua me and Ben dong Long Khot.
