From the windows, passengers could see smoke and flames constantly spreading beneath the plane. Inside the passenger compartment, the entire electrical system was switched off, and the dark gloom enveloped everyone.

According to Reuters , the route between Sapporo and Tokyo is considered Japan's busiest airline route. Japan Airlines (JAL) alone operates up to 16 return flights per day on this route.

Before the incident on the evening of January 2, flight JAL516 departing from Sapporo to Haneda Airport in Tokyo had been allowed to land normally by air traffic control. However, as soon as he landed on the runway at about 5:46 p.m., the accident occurred. JAL516 collided with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft.

The accident happened so quickly that both the JAL516 crew and ground control in Haneda were taken by surprise. Curiously, although the plane was engulfed in flames, the process of evacuating the 379 passengers and crew on JAL516 went miraculously smoothly.

The A350 caught fire into a fireball shortly after the evacuation ended. However, the 5 crew on board the Japan Coast Guard aircraft were not so lucky as they all died after the collision.

After the incident, many residents were shocked and bewildered when they heard the news. A passenger who was on board at the time of the incident used his phone device to record the entire process in the cabin. This person uploaded the video to social media and garnered millions of views in a short time.

It can be seen that when the fire started, the plane was still controlled to slide on the emergency runway. From the windows, passengers could see smoke and flames constantly spreading beneath the plane. Inside the passenger compartment, the entire electrical system was switched off, and the dark gloom enveloped everyone.

The crew constantly reassures passengers and instructs people to use masks and wet wipes to cover the nose to avoid inhaling toxic fumes. The sounds of shouting and chaos of passengers are constantly heard. Everyone wants to get out of danger quickly but at the same time try not to cause too much trouble or add to the chaos of the crew.

According to witnesses aboard flight JAL516, when flames began to envelop the plane, smoke began to fill the cabin, and people began moving towards emergency exits as instructed by flight attendants. Some passengers tried to take children to emergency exits in screams.

"I felt the passenger plane hit something very hard and bounced as soon as I landed. Looking out the window I saw flames outside, and the cabin smelled of gasoline and smoke," a passenger on Japan Airlines Flight 516 told Kyodo news agency.

After the plane came to a stop on the runway, passengers in the cabin were urgently evacuated by emergency exits. Underneath the video, the passenger shared his feelings: "I thought I was going to die!"

"After the accident happened, at first I laughed when I saw some sparks coming from the engine but when the fire broke out I realised it was a serious incident."

Despite the chaos, the JAL516 crew acted professionally as they instructed passengers to cooperate in making the evacuation smooth. No one died on board the passenger plane, but 17 people were injured.

The entire runway at Haneda after the incident was also temporarily closed to ensure the safety of passengers.
