"The Simpsons" has once again been credited with predicting future events - this time a hurricane in Florida. However, many have expressed doubts about the show's "precognitive" abilities and have suggested that it's all just a coincidence.
In the 1996 episode 'Hurricane Neddy', the town of Springfield is thrown into chaos as the characters prepare for an impending storm.
The storm bears striking similarities to the real-life Hurricane Milton as it approached Florida and caused horrific destruction across the state, spawning 36 tornadoes.
Episode 8, season 8 shows the Simpsons family panic-buying after a hurricane warning, followed by a flash flood through the streets and into the second floor of the house as people try to escape on rafts.
This is very similar to Hurricane Milton, when people had to leave their homes and rescue teams had to go to the area to rescue stranded people. At least 17 people died in Hurricane Milton in Florida, and economic damage was estimated to be in the billions of dollars.
Fans have also drawn comparisons to other episodes that foreshadowed the increase in hurricanes hitting Florida. This includes a 2013 episode where a hurricane hits Saint Lucie County, leaving the characters struggling to survive as flooding destroys their homes. The episode shows authorities being forced to issue evacuation orders.
Many fans believe that the animated comedy show "The Simpsons" is actually a "prophet" as many scenes from the show have happened in real life many years after it aired.
"The Simpsons knew the historic storm of 100 years ago could repeat itself"
"The Simpsons are fortune tellers? Everything on the show comes true. It's time we took it seriously."
This is not the first time "The Simpsons" has been said to have correctly predicted many world events.
Throughout its 34-year history, the hit animated film has made startlingly coincidental predictions about real-life events around the world. From 9/11, Donald J. Trump's election as US President, to Disney's acquisition of Fox,...
Most recently, people discovered that in an episode of the animated series 'The Simpsons' released in 2000, the character Lisa Simpson grew up and became the first female president of the United States. This character wore an outfit very similar to that of Vice President Kamala Harris at the 2021 inauguration, even the accessories were similar.
After more than three decades on the air, The Simpsons has given many people "goosebumps", when many of the plots of the show are recreated with real-life events. This happens so often that the animated series has been nicknamed "the prophetic genius". But the series' creator Matt Groening insists that this is just a coincidence and "there is no spiritual element here".
Groening and several members of The Simpsons' production team sat down at Disney's annual D23 Expo to talk about the hit animated series. The panel, called "The Animation Greats," also featured members of the production teams behind Bob's Burgers and Family Guy, and celebrated Fox's animated shows.
When talking about The Simpsons, Groening said that the writers never tried to predict the future, but simply presented "absurd" situations that are often seen in animated films and affirmed that they were not "spiritual players", they never thought that one day these "absurd" situations would become true, and the film crew would suddenly be rumored to be "people from the future".
