A family in Thanh Hoa has 9 brothers with strange names. The reason the 9 brothers have such unique names is because of the old concept of the elders.
In Vinh Loc (Thanh Hoa) there is a family with 9 brothers with strange names. They are: Vu Dinh Lun (born in 1947), Vu Dinh Soen (born in 1957), Vu Dinh Sun (born in 1958), Vu Dinh Lun (born in 1960), Vu Dinh Vien (born in 1961), Vu Dinh Lun (born in 1962), Vu Dinh Lien (born in 1963), Vu Dinh Chap (born in 1967) and Vu Dinh Noi (born in 1972).
The reason why the 9 brothers have such unique names is because of the old concept of the elders. Mr. Lun said that in the past, his parents believed that giving children bad names would make them "easier to raise", while giving them good names often made them sick. Therefore, all 9 of his brothers were given quite strange names.
"When a child is born, the parents decide what name they give, and then they write it down on the birth certificate. There are many families with too many children, and sometimes the parents don't even remember their children's birth dates, only the month and year. When they were young, no one paid attention to their names, only when they grew up and went to school and heard their friends teasing them did they find out," Mr. Lun told Kien Thuc.
Mr. Lun added that his eldest son was married, and a few decades ago, the whole family suffered with him because of his name and his younger brothers. "Every day after school, I saw him crying, and asked if he was being bullied by his friends. He said: "No, I was teased by my friends. Dad, change your name, your name is ugly, my friends always tease me." So he couldn't do anything but cry. He didn't know how to explain it to his son. When he grew up, he thought differently," said the Thanh Hoa man.
In Phuong Canh ward (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi), there is a family who named their four children with the "most special names in the village", including Then, Khoa, Xich, and Chot. With such strange names, the family members fell into a situation that was both funny and sad when going out.
Mrs. Khoa confided on a TV show: "There is no one with a name like mine, maybe even the whole commune, the whole district, and even the city. I once asked my mother why she gave us such bad names, and she said it was to make it easier to raise us, and there was no other intention.
But wherever our child goes, people tease him, saying, "Mom and aunt, with a name like that, the house will never be robbed, right?" At first, they reacted strongly, but I said, "Let it be. Whoever wants to tease me can tease me."
In Lien Tri alley (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi), there is also a family that named their 4 sons in the same way as Mrs. Khoa's family, which are Iron, Steel, Electricity, and Water. Mr. Thep once revealed that in his father's mind, to build Socialism, it is necessary to industrialize with a mastery system. Therefore, the family has 4 sons, so his father named them in turn like that.
"My father named us like that because he wanted the country to be more prosperous and civilized. We did not disappoint our father's wishes - to study hard and have a place in society. More than anything, my family always loves and takes care of each other in life. That is the most valuable asset we have in life," the man said.
The hardship of having a unique name is not only faced by this family in Thanh Hoa, but also by a young man in Ho Chi Minh City. This man with a unique name, when doing paperwork, had to consider carefully for fear of making a mistake.
When naming their children, parents are usually careful and do thorough research because "names really affect a person's destiny". But there are also parents who name their children randomly, even intending to give them a good name but when making the birth certificate, they "change" it to another name. A typical example is the story of an 8X man in Binh Phuoc below.
"My real name is Bon, middle name is Nhat. Everyone calls me Nhat Bon, but rarely do people call me Bon because they feel unfamiliar. I also think my name is special, not the same as anyone else's," the man shared.
Mr. Nhat Bon said that his parents gave him this name by a very coincidental coincidence that no one can understand until now. He once heard his mother tell him that when she was pregnant with him, his father immediately came up with the idea of naming his children after countries in Asia. His father insisted on naming him Nhat Nhat - the same name as the land of the rising sun, which is very prosperous and developed. His father wanted him to grow up to be good and have his own career.
The day Nhat Bon was born, his father excitedly went to the People's Committee of the commune to register the birth certificate. When the judicial officer asked what he wanted to name his son, he suddenly read "Nhat Bon". From then on, he had the name Bon, although before that, at home, the family always engraved the name Ban.
"I asked my parents why my name was Bon and not Ban. I even thought Ban was much better than Bon. My parents just smiled without any explanation.
Then I went online to find out and found out that Japan and Japan both imply a country located close to the sun," he said.
Growing up with a name that rarely appears in Vietnam, Nhat Bon was often teased and ridiculed by his friends. But he did not care what his friends said, always reminding himself that it was the name his parents gave him, so no matter what, he had to respect it.
When doing paperwork, the man often finds himself in a situation where the officer asks him over and over again whether his name is Japanese or Japanese. He even has to check every document he makes carefully to avoid the case where they mistakenly write it as Japanese.
Not only Nhat Bon has a very coincidental name, his stepsister also has a name that "parents thought one way, but when they named her another". He said: "My parents wanted to name my little sister Thai Lan, but when they went to make a birth certificate, they named her Tham - a name that has nothing to do with the original name.
When it came to the youngest son, his parents decided to name him Viet Nam - the name of their country. However, his father made a birth certificate with Viet, a little different but closest to the original purpose.
