After a period of time after being released from prison, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang continued to livestream with content that the representative of Venerable Thich Nhat Tu said was 'blatant slander'.
According to Women's Newspaper, on June 10, Pham Son Law Office (Hanoi Bar Association), authorized representative of Venerable Thich Nhat Tu, issued an official announcement refuting information considered untrue and insulting to the Venerable's honor and dignity, related to the recent livestream series of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang.
According to the lawyer representing Venerable Thich Nhat Tu, from May 24 to June 7, 2025, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang continued to use social media to livestream 4 times with content that was considered "blatantly slanderous" of Venerable Thich Nhat Tu. Ms. Hang was previously sentenced to 30 months in prison for violating the act of "abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the rights and legitimate interests of organizations and individuals" under Article 331 of the 2015 Penal Code.
The representative law firm said that Ms. Hang's statements were fabricated, seriously damaging the Venerable's reputation and dignity, as well as negatively affecting the Buddhist activities at home and abroad that the Venerable is participating in.
This behavior of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang is also considered to have signs of violating the law, especially the provisions in Article 8 and Article 16 of the 2018 Law on Cyber Security on prohibiting the posting of false information and personal insults on cyberspace.
Faced with these signs of violation, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang was given legal requests by the representative of Venerable Thich Nhat Tu, including: removing all videos containing content considered to be incorrect and publicly apologizing to the Venerable on the same social media platform used to spread the information.
"If Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang believes that she is not wrong, please return to Vietnam to confront the authorities as she was summoned and prosecuted by law 3 years ago. Justice is always open but also strict and no one can stand above the law," Pham Son Law Office affirmed.
Along with that, the announcement also sends a warning to individuals, organizations and social media users (including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook channels...) not to spread, comment or produce content that distorts or insults the honor of Venerable Thich Nhat Tu. Those who have shared related content are encouraged to proactively remove it and take appropriate remedial measures.
"We always uphold the spirit of tolerance and humanity in Buddhist culture, but tolerance does not mean condoning evil to continue to thrive. Taking advantage of social networks to tarnish the image of a person like Venerable Thich Nhat Tu is not only immoral, but also seriously violates the law and social norms," the announcement stated.
Not only did Ms. Hang publicly 'mention' Venerable Thich Nhat Tu on social media, she also made a controversial statement about Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam. In relation to this incident, two men were arrested for editing and distributing a clip in which Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang distorted and fabricated false information about the implementation of the retirement regime of Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, former Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police.
In recent times, Ho Chi Minh City Police have been serious, determined, and exemplary in implementing the policies of the Party, the State, the Central Public Security Party Committee, and the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security on the arrangement and reorganization of provincial-level police.
On June 1, Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, former Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police, retired in accordance with the regulations of the Party and the police force.
However, Ho Chi Minh City Police discovered a number of social media accounts posting many videos using images of leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, and leaders of Ho Chi Minh City Police with "sensational" titles to attract attention.
Two TikTok accounts "phuoc79" and "SonHa2" edited and re-spread the above false information, at the same time, inserted negative content aimed at the policy of streamlining the organizational apparatus, lowering the prestige of Party and State leaders.
