Duong Minh: TVB actor commits crimes like eating, jailed for 17 days, hopes to start over

Duong Minh is an exclusive actor of TVB, loved for his supporting roles in "hit" movies. Because of the scanda.l involving the law, his image has completely collapsed in the hearts of the public.

In September 1998, Duong Minh signed a management contract with TVB after graduating from the company's 17th Artist Training Class. In 2000, he was given his first leading role in the comedy series "Reaction Force". After that, the actor was promoted by the company to participate in the male beauty pageant Mister World, but was abandoned.

Yang returned to Hong Kong and played a few more supporting roles, before landing another leading role in the youth drama "Youthful Desire" and the mystery/adventure drama "Top Secret Files", both of which aired in 2003.

In 2005, Yeung's career was interrupted when he was arrested for drunk driving and criminal damage. He was sentenced to 150 hours of community service, and became the first TVB actor to retake acting classes. To make a living, he opened a clothing retail store in Mong Kok in 2006, but the store closed after a year of business.

Yang Ming also tried another business selling Chinese crabs, but the business failed after three months. He then got drunk again and assaulted a security guard at a nightclub. In 2007, the actor was convicted of drunk driving and vandalizing a convenience store for not having a business license.

In 2011, Duong Minh's acting career was revived after his role in "Family Story". He was then nominated for the Most Improved Actor awar.d at the TVB Anniversary Awards and won the awar.d in 2017. In 2018, the 8x actor returned to the food business by opening stew shops, saying that income from acting was often unstable.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Duong Minh had to close all of his stores. That same year, he had his first male lead role in the TV series "My Commissioned Lover". In early August 2020, Duong Minh caused a car acciden.t on his way home.

He suddenly lost control, crashed through a traffic sign and crashed into a barrier. Although the acciden.t did not cause any injuries, Duong Minh was still seriously injured. At the scene, the actor's face was red and his legs were unsteady. He was helped into an ambulance by two traffic police officers, but he still refused to take a breathalyzer test.

The police suspected Duong Minh of driving under the influence of alcohol, so they filed a case and sent it to the court for handling. The incident damaged the actor's image in the eyes of the public. TVB - the station that directly managed him - ordered his career to be "frozen". Film and advertising contracts were also terminated one after another.

In May 2021, the movie "Nghich Thien Ky An" starring Duong Minh aired. In November of the same year, he was convicted of all three charges and sentenced to 18 days in prison.

During the trial, it was also mentioned that the actor had been fined in a separate incident for using a mobile phone while driving. In September 2022, Judge Johnny Chan Jong-herng told Yang Ming that the evidence for his charge of careless driving was "absolutely solid."

Duong Minh was released on bail of HK$100,000 and ordered not to leave Hong Kong, report to police every Wednesday and not to drive during his bail period.

After many court appearances and appeals, on December 22, 2022, the Hong Kong court rejected Duong Minh's appeal. Therefore, he had to serve the old sentence (2021) of 18 days in prison, having his driving license revoked for 2 years and paying a fine for driving while intoxicated and causing an acciden.t.

On January 7, 2023, Duong Minh was released from prison, one day earlier than the court's previous sentence. Upon his release, the actor participated in an interview on TVB's Scoop program and shared what he experienced during the 17 days behind bars.

The star of the movie "The Cruel Challenge" had tears in his eyes and bowed his head when appearing in front of the camera. "During that time, I was very disciplined and lost my inherent freedom. I reflected on many things, reflected on what I had done and hoped that my appearance here was a new beginning," he shared.

Duong Minh remained silent when asked about the information that the actor requested protection because he was afraid of being harmed in prison and that was the reason why he was transferred to another prison in the middle of serving the remaining sentence. The 8x actor only shared that he did not want to disappoint TVB or waste the opportunities that he had been given during the past time.

Duong Minh admitted that he felt guilty for disappointing his family, loved ones and the audience who had continuously supported him. The actor said that the first days in prison were the worst and he screamed a lot. "The feeling of guilt was what tormente.d me the most during my time there.

"There was no one to talk to me, nothing to express my feelings and there were only four walls around... it was hard to kil.l time there," he said. Duong Minh further revealed that the officers and doctors in the prison were a source of encouragement, positive energy and gave him necessary warnings. After the scanda.l, Duong Minh said he had learned a big lesson for himself.
