Tran Trien Bang is one of the actors loved by audiences in recent years thanks to his top-notch acting ability. From obscure supporting roles at ATV and TVB, he gradually made his mark through many "hit" works.
Ruco Chan Chin-pang (born 14 January 1977) is a Hong Kong actor and singer. He is the first TVB star to win My Favourite TVB Actor at the TVB StarHub Awards for three consecutive years (2014, 2015, 2016) and also the first actor to win My Favourite TVB Actor for two consecutive years at the TVB Star Malaysia Awards (2015, 2016).
Chan was born in Hong Kong to Xiamen, Fujian ancestry. His father was a fireman and his mother was a seamstress. Influenced by his father from a young ag.e, Chan developed a love for baseball and joined the Hong Kong baseball team after rigorous training at the Jubilee Sports Academy at the ag.e of 13. He was the youngest athlete to represent Hong Kong in overseas competitions at that time.
After 5 years of playing the sport, Chan left the team after completing his high school exams. After graduating, he was admitted to a technical academy and attracted by the monthly income of HK$3,000, he also joined the TVB Artist Training Class.
At the ag.e of 17, Chan was required to obtain written approval from his parents before signing a management contract with TVB. His father initially refused, but later relented when TVB introduced a clause that would automatically terminate the contract if he did not perform well in school. In 1994, the handsome actor graduated from TVB's Seventh Artist Training Class.
Chan first appeared on television in the 1994 television series "Instinct", in which he made a brief appearance as the young friend of Ekin Cheng's character Bao Man Long. A few weeks later, he made a brief appearance in the comedy "Heavy Love" as Andy's friend, played by Hawick Lau.
Over the next three years, Chan took on supporting roles in more than eighteen TVB dramas and left the company in 1998 after signing a recording contract with PolyGram. Prior to the release of his debut EP, Universal acquired PolyGram and the actor's contract with PolyGram was terminated.
Over the next few years, Chan won several small supporting roles in various Hong Kong films. When there was no filming work, he would work as a laborer on a reclamation site, earning only HK$300 a day.
In 2001, Chan signed with ATV to begin his career as a television actor again. According to the actor, his first two years at ATV were "difficult, uncomfortable and full of regrets". Despite his experience in both television and film, ATV only gave him supporting roles and appearances in music videos.
Tran Trien Bang's first leading role was as a villain in the historical drama "Love In A Miracle" (2004). He was then given a major supporting role in "Exorcism 3". Besides acting in TV series, the 7x actor also appeared in many variety shows and organized many grand ceremonies for ATV.
Dissatisfied with his career at ATV, Chan returned to TVB in 2008 and signed an eight-year management contract with the company. He was cast in supporting roles in several successful television series, such as "ID Elite" (2009), "Hero in the Sea of Fire" (2009), "Secret of Love" (2010), "Pu Song Ling" (2010), "Love Taxi" (2010) and "The Mindless Detective" (2010), most of which were villain roles.
In 2011, Chan attracted media attention and critical acclaim for his role as a lawyer in the legal drama "The Truth". That same year, he earned his first nominations for Best Actor and My Favourite Male Character at the TVB Anniversary Awards.
Chan's subsequent performances have earned him critical acclaim, most notably in "Ku Lun" (2013), "ATF Insider" (2014) and "Cheung Po-Chi" (2015), the latter of which won him the TVB Anniversary Awar.d for Most Popular Actor.
In 2016, Chan won TVB's Best Actor awar.d for his leading role in "Hero of the City". Since then, the actor has continuously appeared in "hit" films. The most notable is probably the film "Against the Heavens" with the role of Hua Jun Sam.
In his personal life, Chan began a romantic relationship with the Miss Asia Pageant winner in 2008. They broke up in 2010. Over the next few years, there were rumors that the 7x actor dated actresses, but none of them received as much media attention as his "Ju Lun" and "Dai Duoc Phuong" co-star Chung Gia Han and later his "Hero" and "Co-star" co-star Nancy Wu.
Chan has repeatedly denied these rumors. In 2016, as a guest judge at the Miss Hong Kong pageant, he met contestant Don Man Nhu (born in 1990) and then in March 2017, the actor took a photo with her in a car at The Peak.
The relationship was reported by the media and on September 10, 2018, Tran Trien Bang announced his engagement to Don Van Nhu. They were married on October 13 of the same year and welcomed their first daughter on April 14, 2019.
Tran Trien Bang said that because he is 13 years older than his wife, they have many differences in their outlook on life. "My generation and her generation have very different thoughts. There is nothing really right or wrong, it's just that the world is developing too fast. I always try to find out what my wife is thinking so I can talk to her and understand her better," said the father of one.
