Cashero quickly climbed to the top of Netflix's most-watched films in many countries, including Vietnam. The series scored points thanks to its unique concept, clever script, and storytelling that was both humorous and very realistic.
Adapted from the webtoon of the same name, Cashero opens up a very different superhero world. There, power doesn't come from magic or advanced technology, but depends entirely on the amount of money in one's wallet.
The richer a superhero is, the stronger they become.
The central character is Kang Sang Woong (played by Lee Jun Ho) – an ordinary civil servant who lives a simple life and dreams of a small, cozy home. His peaceful life is turned upside down when he discovers he possesses a special ability: the more money he has, the greater his power.
It sounds impressive, but in reality, it's a real drain on the wallet. Every time Sang Woong saves someone, the money in his pocket disappears. When his wallet is empty, he immediately reverts to being just an ordinary person, nothing more, nothing less. From here, the life of a "financial hero" begins, filled with hilarious and awkward situations.
You are not alone on your journey to becoming a good person.
Accompanying Sang Woong is Kim Min Sook (Kim Hye Jun) – his practical, level-headed girlfriend who always plays the role of "reluctant chief accountant." She not only handles the finances but also pulls him back to reality whenever he's about to spend all his money on chivalry.
Besides that, there are other interesting characters: Byeon Ho In (Kim Byung Chul) – a lawyer who only unleashes his powers when drunk, and also the leader of a group of people with special abilities. Bang Eun Mi (Kim Hyang Gi) – a girl who can control objects with her mind, but also has many limitations.
The group is inadvertently drawn into a series of events involving a mysterious organization that hunts down people with special abilities.
When even superpowers are measured in money.
On the opposing side, the villainous duo Joanna (Kang Han Na) and Jonathan (Lee Chae Min) represent the dark side of power. For them, superpowers are not something to protect others, but rather commodities to be possessed and controlled.
The dialogues, subtly satirical yet impactful, raise questions about human values in modern society: When everything can be measured in money, what truly remains worth cherishing?
It's not just a superhero movie.
Cashero's biggest strength lies in its relatable storytelling. The film doesn't place the characters in a distant, abstract world, but instead confronts them with very real-life choices: survival, friendship, responsibility, fear, and simple dreams.
It is this authenticity that has led audiences to jokingly call the film "the most down-to-earth superhero movie they've ever seen."
A cast of talented actors creates appeal.
Lee Jun Ho, the male lead and member of the group 2PM, continues to demonstrate his increasingly mature acting skills. Following the resounding success of "The Red Collar," he maintains a consistent performance, perfectly portraying a man who is both down-to-earth and deeply emotional.
Actress Kim Hye Jun is also a guarantee of quality. She previously made a name for herself with "Another Child," "Chip In," and especially for her villainous role in "Inspector Koo." Her versatile acting and natural emotions have made her a promising face among the younger generation of Korean actors.
A film that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant.
Without excessive special effects or complicated plotlines, Cashero scores points thanks to its intelligent, relatable, and humane storytelling. The film reminds viewers that sometimes what makes us strong isn't special power, but the choice to live a decent life in everyday life.
And perhaps that's why Cashero is becoming the most talked-about name on Netflix these last days of the year.
