After less than a week of release, "Blood Paradise" shocked the Vietnamese box office when it surpassed the blockbuster "Avatar 3" and far behind Thu Trang's new project. The film quickly reached the milestone of more than 60 billion VND, becoming a phenomenon in early 2026.
The Vietnamese box office in early 2026 witnessed a spectacular flip when "Blood Paradise" suddenly surpassed both the Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar 3: Fire and Ashes" and Thu Trang's domestic project "Who loves who loves". The film directed by Hoang Tuan Cuong quickly became a phenomenon, making the filmmakers and the audience talk endlessly.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, in just three weekends, "Blood Paradise" earned more than 31 billion VND with more than 353,000 tickets sold. This figure brings the total revenue of the film to over 60 billion VND after less than a week of premiere. This is a rare achievement for a Vietnamese film, especially when it has to compete head-on with international blockbusters and a heavily promoted domestic project.
Meanwhile, Thu Trang's "Who loves who loves" was disappointing when it only reached more than 9.5 billion VND last weekend, bringing the total revenue to more than 16.7 billion VND. Despite being considered to have media advantages, the film is inferior in terms of the number of screenings, only half of "Blood Paradise". This partly explains why Thu Trang's new project cannot make a breakthrough like previous works.
On the other hand, "Avatar 3" – James Cameron's global blockbuster – after two weeks of dominating the Vietnamese box office has begun to cool down. Over the weekend, the film earned 28.6 billion VND, ranking second. However, the total revenue of more than 250 billion VND still helps "Avatar 3" maintain its title as one of the most popular films in Vietnam in the period of late 2025 – early 2026.
What makes "Blood Paradise" a phenomenon lies not only in the revenue but also in the painful topic: online scams. The film exploits the story of workers who are lured by the promise of "light jobs with high salaries", and then fall into the lair of crime abroad, facing the scene of "easy to go – difficult to return". The closeness to current affairs and the acting of familiar faces such as Quang Tuan, Hoai Lam, Quach Ngoc Ngoan, Thanh Huong... has created a strong attraction, making the audience sympathize and discuss lively.
Many people believe that the success of "Blood Paradise" is a testament to the increasing interest of Vietnamese audiences in stories that reflect social reality. Instead of just looking for epic technical blockbusters, viewers are willing to support a domestic work if it touches on the pain and truth that exists. This is also a positive signal for Vietnamese cinema, opening up opportunities for filmmakers to boldly exploit thorny and intimate topics.
The contrast between "Blood Paradise" and "Who loves whom" also creates an interesting debate. On one side is a film that exploits hot social issues, on the other side is a project with light entertainment colors. Audiences have a choice, but the box office results show a clear preference for works with depth and topicality.
More broadly, the breakthrough of "Blood Paradise" also shows that Vietnamese cinema can completely compete fairly with international blockbusters if it knows how to exploit the right topics and create empathy. In the context of an increasingly demanding audience, this success is a reminder that content quality is the decisive factor, not just a promotional gimmick.
