Diddy, 55, is being held at the Metropolitan Federal Detention Center in Brooklyn. On October 1, lawyer Tony Buzbee announced that there are currently 120 people suing Diddy, including 25 victims of juvenile harassment. He has not yet pleaded guilty.
In the face of the wave of allegations, Mrs. Janice Smalls Combs, 84, spoke out on behalf of the family to defend her son through the law firm Figgers Law. A representative of the law office posted Ms. Combs' full statement on Instagram on October 6.
She wrote: "It is heartbreaking to see my son being judged through a story woven with lies. For me, witnessing my child being 'publicly executed' before having the opportunity to assert my innocence is a pain that cannot be expressed in words. Like everyone, my child deserves to present his views and prove his innocence."
The noisy series of the "rap music tycoon" was exposed after his ex-girlfriend - singer Cassie Ventura - filed a complaint against the artist who had played tricks with her in New York federal court in November 2023. Initially, Diddy denied this, but on May 17, CNN published a video of him impacting her in a hotel in Los Angeles in 2016. Two days later, the rapper posted a video apologizing to his ex on Instagram.
Mrs. Combs also mentioned Ventura's case in the article, admitting Diddy's mistakes but saying that her son was not perfect, and sometimes made mistakes "like everyone else". As for why her child chose to lie at the time, she wrote: "Sometimes truth and deception are so closely tied together that it becomes scary to admit part of a story, especially when the truth is outside of moral norms and too complex to believe. This is why my son's lawyers chose to settle the lawsuit with his ex-girlfriend instead of litigating to the end, which led to the backfiring effect when the federal government used this decision against Diddy, interpreting it as a guilty plea."
Regarding the group of people who accuse Diddy, the rapper's mother said that they only want money from settlement instead of justice. She said that some individuals thought they could make money by slandering Diddy after seeing him quickly handle the lawsuit against Ventura.
At the end, this woman affirmed that her son was not "a monster like all the paints". She said all she can do now is pray to live long enough to see the time when Diddy speaks the truth.
Under the comment section of news sites, most readers do not agree with the rapper's mother's opinion. Some people said that they understood that she did it because she loved her child, but this was not a reasonable way. On the NY Post, an account wrote: "Diddy's behavior is reprehensible, but her trying to defend her child is just as bad. The public talked about it because they saw that it was time for Diddy to be detained and investigated for sick things."
Rapper Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, was born in 1969, founded the Bad Boy record label in 1993, contributing to making hip hop a popular brand worldwide. In 2022, Diddy's net worth reached about $1 billion, according to Forbes. Diddy is not married but has seven children with four girlfriends.
The artist was arrested on September 16 and appeared in court the next day. He once offered to pay the court $50 million in bail bail, but the judge refused. The next trial will take place on October 9. If convicted, Diddy faces life in prison.
Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the 120 victims, said Sean "Diddy" Combs said many celebrities had contacted the victim to "resolve the matter privately." Many people tried to pay and settle smoothly so as not to be named in court during the trial.
"All of these individuals need to be exposed here," Tony said, "who will be named, when they will be named, all will be announced at the appropriate time."
