Since its release, The Tunnel has caused a strong fever in the film industry and received many positive reviews from experts. However, the film still creates many controversies from small details, the audience questions whether the director is abusing.
Since its release, Tunnels: Sun in the Dark - directed by Bui Thac Chuyen - quickly became a hit with impressive revenue, currently exceeding 90 billion VND according to Box Office Vietnam (an independent box office monitoring unit).
Besides the compliments about the quality, the film also created controversy surrounding the director's use of "nud.e scenes".
If you think carefully when watching Tunnels: Sun in the Dark, you will see that it is a weak instinct, almost heartless and a desire to be loved, fragile but intense. The two "ho.t" scenes in the film - between Ut Kho and the masked man, between Ba Huong and Tu Dap have become the center of controversy, but for me, they are the catalysts that open up a necessary dialogue about truth, aesthetics and humanity.
The backlash from some audiences is understandable. In the popular consciousness, war films, especially Vietnamese films about resistance, are associated with the image of loyal soldiers, living an idealistic life and leaving no room for weak or deviant instincts. Therefore, when a female guerrilla character like Ut Kho appeared not in a heroic halo, but in a vulnerable situation, some viewers felt betrayed by the expectations they had for the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers".
However, cinema is not a history textbook. And war is not only about victory, discipline or indomitable spirit. It also has sweat, tears, fear, and psychological wounds, sometimes never healed. If we look closely, the two "ho.t" scenes of Tunnels: Sun in the Dark are not aimed at "visual stimulation" or cheap audience attraction, but are slices into the "darkest" part of human beings: where the survival instinct, the desire to be loved and helplessness coexist.
Some opinions say that these segments are unnecessary and can be completely cu.t out while still retaining the main message. On the contrary, many viewers support director Bui Thac Chuyen, praising the way he tells the story. Each ho.t scene in the film is built with restraint, just enough to evoke emotions without being vulgar or offensive. Both segments play an important role, seamlessly connecting the content.
The first scene explains the psychological developments of Ut Kho, helping viewers understand the restlessness and conflict in the young gir.l's soul. At the same time, it is also a springboard for the events that follow. The scene between Ba Huong and Tu Dap is more important, a beautiful ending to a love story suppressed during wartime.
Director Bui Thac Chuyen uses ho.t scenes to depict the desire for love, the desire to live amidst countless dangers. No matter how resilient they are, soldiers are still human with very ordinary emotions and needs.
In other words, the two "ho.t" scenes in the film are both artistic experiments to expand the expressive space of Vietnamese war films. It does not destroy the image of soldiers, but returns them to their true meaning as human beings: knowing how to love, knowing how to fear, having darkness and light. In world cinema, this is not strange. But in Vietnamese films, this choice is still courageous.
Of course, cinema is always a field of debate. Some people find it beautiful, others find it offensive. But more importantly, the director dared to raise an issue that is not easy to touch, so that the audience not only sits in the theater watching war as an epic, but also wonders: if it were me, in that darkness, would I be able to maintain my ideals? Or would I also get lost among human instincts? And if cinema can make the audience ask that question, perhaps it has fulfilled a greater mission than just telling a story.
The tunnel is far beyond imagination, the actors are tortured, retreating in the dark Hany Đan13:24:31 07/04/2025In the past few days, director Bui Thac Tuyen's Tunnel has caused great attention in the professional world and the online community. Besides the success of the film is the sacrifice of the heavy roles of the film cast.
