According to Space for Humanity, Amanda Ngoc Nguyen (born in 1991), a social and civil rights activist, is about to become the first Vietnamese woman to fly into space.
In 1980, pilot Pham Tuan and Soviet cosmonaut Viktor Vasilyevich Gorbatko made a space flight aboard the Joint 37. The mission made him Vietnamese, as well as the first Asian, to carry out this noble mission.
Now, nearly half a century later, Amanda Nguyen may be the first woman of Vietnamese descent to make history from a similar flight.
She will fly on the upcoming New Shepard rocket launch by the aerospace company Blue Origin.
The American non-profit organization Space for Humanity (S4H) has announced for the first time funding Amanda Nguyen's space flight.
It is known that S4H's program aims to select, train and bring influential individuals from all walks of life to space to experience the "comprehensive effect", a positive impact after observing the Earth from space.
S4H also provides professional training for Citizen Astronauts so that when they return to Earth, they can serve as global leaders and ambassadors, committed to inspiring a better, brighter tomorrow for all.
On the homepage, S4H emphasizes that Amanda Nguyen is "the epitome of the spirit and ambition of the Citizen Astronaut Program".
"S4H couldn't be prouder to collaborate with and support Amanda Nguyen's journey into space. Amanda's new trip will be a shining example for countless others," said Antonio Peronace, CEO of S4H.
"Amanda and her journey represent the strength, passion, and excellence we want to continue to take to the next level."
Amanda graduated from Harvard University and interned at NASA in 2013. She worked at the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, then served as deputy White House liaison for the U.S. State Department. She is also known for her advocacy activities, emphasizing shared values and visions for the future.
In a video released by the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam on March 28, Amanda Nguyen said in Vietnamese: "I'm Vietnamese."
"I fly into space so that young Vietnamese women can see themselves among the stars. The important thing for me is that I can bring my community by my side," Amanda Nguyen continued.
She also did not forget to affirm: "I may be the first, but I will not be the last."
Not only is she the first person of Vietnamese descent to fly into space, this girl born in 1991 also bravely stood up to change the laws of the United States, having been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Specifically, in 2014, Amanda Ngoc Nguyen founded Rise - an NGO tasked with protecting victims of abuse. Rise raises funds through the GoFundMe page, and every member who participates is voluntary.
Six months after the establishment of the Rise Foundation, Amanda Ngoc Nguyen published a draft bill on the rights of survivors of assault (Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill Of Rights).
On October 7, 2016, President Barack Obama signed the law into law. So far, this law has been passed in many other US states and changed the lives of at least 25 million victims.
For her efforts, Amanda Nguyen was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 and named Woman of the Year 2022 by Time magazine. The 9x girl of Vietnamese origin was also ranked by Forbes magazine in the list of 30 outstanding people under 30 years old; 100 outstanding foreign policy figures; awarded the Nelson Mandela Award; World Leadership Award; Young Women's Award... and many other honors.
