In the clips shared on social media, Quynh Phuong calls herself "the water bowl medium", "Hoang Thien an duc" and advertises that "the water bowl medium's fortune telling" can "clearly see" the fate, reputation, career and misfortune of the person who comes to see her. Just by the viewer opening the water bowl, this medium can read out the family story, the land, the spirit possession, the fate, the dead, the broken relationship...

People who want to see this medium must make an appointment in advance through the Facebook fanpage or Zalo community group. When making an appointment, the viewer needs to bring a 1.5 liter bottle of water, the medium will pour water from the bottle into a bowl, wave an incense stick above it and then start to judge about family, life, the underworld, and the living world.

To attract more people to watch, this medium continuously posts fortune-telling clips on her personal TikTok page with more than 11 million likes and nearly half a million followers.

According to information from VTV's report, on average, the water bowl medium sees about 30-40 customers a day. Each customer orders a ceremony of 500,000 VND, so the daily income is about 20 million VND. However, this is just a small amount of money, the main purpose of the water bowl medium is to require customers to perform a ceremony to open the temple with a cost of up to hundreds of millions of VND.

Currently, the tiktok page "Quynh Phuong - Co Dong Bat Nuoc" has more than 455 thousand followers and more than 11 million likes. As of the morning of October 31, this account has disabled comments on fortune-telling videos.

Previously, to verify whether the water bowl medium really had supernatural powers as she claimed on social networks or was just a trick to lure people like the areca-chopping medium who was arrested by the authorities, two VTV reporters, posing as a couple who had not had children for many years, brought a 1.5 liter bottle of water to the water bowl medium. After paying the offering and performing a few prayers, the water in the bottle was poured into the bowl by the medium and the scare scene was repeated in the same scenario that had been applied to thousands of people who had come here.

Although she claimed to be able to see everyone's past and future through a bowl of water, this shaman did not realize that the two VTV reporters sitting in front of her were both married and had children, and were not even married. However, with the purpose of scaring the faint-hearted into spending money on all kinds of rituals, the shaman continued to act.

It is easy to see when looking through the content on this medium's social media pages that mainly revolve around cutting off negative relationships, setting up soldiers, exorcising ghosts, and worshiping saints... In addition to the above clips, there are many other clips showing the medium telling fortunes about the owner, ancestors, career, children... Many times, the "medium" asserts that the person who comes to see her is "tortured" and needs to go to a ceremony and repent.

Previously, in 2023, "areca nut splitting medium" Truong Thi Huong in Hai Duong caused a stir in public opinion with her ability to "tell fortunes and split areca nuts and predict all kinds of ghosts and demons, yin and yang". Ms. Huong was then temporarily detained to investigate the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Therefore, the phenomenon of "the water bowl medium" immediately caused controversy after VTV reported it. Many people are concerned that this is a manifestation of superstition and leads to cases of seduction like the incident of the "areca pot medium" in Hai Duong before.

According to VTV, some victims believed in the ghost story told by the water medium and had to borrow money at high interest rates to have enough money to hold the ceremony. Up to now, the victims have sent a complaint to the police to request clarification of the water medium's behavior of profiting from superstitious propaganda.
