On the social network TikTok, an account appeared to share personal feelings about Chi Pu's pho shop experience in Shanghai, China. This person constantly gave the worst criticism and had three posts about the store.
According to a post with the most interactions, this account commented that the area of the shop is disappointingly small, only about 2m across. She said: "Because in China everything is big. It's only 10 people inside." Netizens immediately countered that Shanghai land is extremely expensive, densely populated and trade competition is fierce, not wanting to be large.
In particular, what made the girl receive the most anger from netizens was the following sharing line: "My group went to 5 people, all 5 thought that pho was rootless, edible but did not feel that it was pho".
She also expressed her overwhelming disappointment when giving her final opinion: "Vietnamese pho is world famous, the word 'pho' is included in the Oxford dictionary, keeping the word 'pho', so why do you have to adapt pho to suit Chinese taste as Chi Pu fan said? In short, Chi Pu is beautiful but Chi Pu pho is bad, that's when I eat it, so I say that."
Immediately below the comment section, many "passersby" have "popularized" business knowledge for this account.
Accordingly, one comment that received the most concurrence said:
"I don't like Chi Pu but allow me to speak up about how to do business. Agree that pho is a national spirit, but if you want to 'live' in their country, you have to adjust the taste to suit the eater, right?
Like traditional foreign dishes through Vietnam, they also have to adjust the taste, Vietnamese people can eat and buy.
For example, Tokbokki is cooked according to Korean taste, you eat it inappropriately and then criticize, then do not buy it, how can it exist in Vietnam."
Many netizens supported this comment and also affirmed that "tokbokki eaten in Korea taste 100% different in Vietnam".
Besides, many people also shared: "Look no further, the taste of pho between the North and the South has been much different, let alone in a country with different culture and taste."
Indeed, in business in general and especially in the F&B segment in particular, there is a strategy that sellers should keep in mind if they want to succeed when "bringing the bell to hit the country" that is the Think Global, Act Local strategy (global thinking, local action). Accordingly, no matter how delicious the food in your country is, how quintessential it is, if you want to bring it to the international market and "get rich" from it. Then it is necessary to make certain adjustments to suit the culture and taste of people there, to be successful.
Look no further, when the famous beef noodle soup of Hue was "migrated" to the South, the taste and cooking method almost completely changed. Hue people when eating beef noodles in Saigon certainly cannot recognize the dish coming from their homeland. On the contrary, when Southern people come to Hue, they will not be able to like the beef noodle soup here more than the familiar taste in Saigon.
Or a more typical example must be mentioned the world-famous fast food company McDonalds. Specifically, in the early years of entering the Indian market, the revenue of the "fast food restaurant giant" has continuously declined. After researching, McDonalds discovered that the majority of Indians say no to beef and pork, while these are the two meats that McDonalds uses the most to make its famous burgers.
The brand eventually settled by introducing the "Maharaja Mac," an Indian version of Big Mac made from lamb. And others are added to the menu to suit local tastes, such as the "McAloo Tikki Burger" made with chicken. All dishes are carefully categorized for vegetarians and salty eaters to suit a country where the majority of Hindus are vegetarians. McDonald's Chief Representative in India said, " We had to change a lot to suit the taste of Indians." Indeed, 75% of McDonald's menu items in India have been Indianized.
