On the main northbound route, within just a few short hours, three consecutive collisions involving seven vehicles turned the section of highway passing through Tan Lap commune into a "battlefield," causing traffic jams stretching for several kilometers.
3 AM and a "hat-trick" of horrific accidents.
In the early morning of February 26th, while most people were still asleep, the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet expressway (the section passing through Tan Lap commune) witnessed some breathtaking moments.
The series of incidents began with a passenger bus bearing a Binh Dinh license plate. For unknown reasons, the bus suddenly lost control and crashed head-on into the concrete median. The impact was so strong that it knocked down seven sections of reinforced concrete before sliding onto the roadside and knocking down another section of guardrail. The image of the bus blocking the road immediately afterward signaled a turbulent morning for the authorities.
But that was just the beginning. Just 50 meters from the first accident site, a similar "scenario" unfolded. Another passenger bus also met its demise, crashing through eight concrete median barriers and destroying 5 meters of guardrail.
The scene was distorted and traffic was rescued.
But that's not all; the third collision was far more complex, involving a large number of vehicles: a sleeper bus, a tractor-trailer, two trucks, and a 7-seater car.
At the scene, the seven-seater vehicle became the focus of heartbreak as its front end was completely deformed and shattered after the powerful collision. Fortunately, the driver only suffered minor scratches – a miracle amidst the wreckage. However, the fact that the sleeper bus was blocking the entire road officially "blocked" the entire southbound lane.
The inevitable consequence was a massive traffic jam. The line of vehicles stretched for over 3km, turning the highway into an impromptu parking lot.
Rapid response from law enforcement
Immediately after receiving the report, the traffic police team and the route management unit arrived promptly to handle the consequences. To alleviate the congestion, authorities implemented traffic diversion from a distance, directing vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City to turn onto the Tan Minh intersection and National Highway 55.
As of now, the official cause is still under investigation. However, drivers passing through the area say that the light rain this morning, slippery road conditions, and limited visibility created a dangerous "trap" for distracted drivers.
A warning for post-Tet holiday travel.
The Dau Giay – Phan Thiet expressway, with a total investment of over 12,500 billion VND, was once a source of pride in terms of infrastructure, but recently it has become a "hot spot" for accidents. After the Lunar New Year holiday, the volume of traffic heading south increased dramatically, causing the road to be constantly overloaded.
In fact, there have been more than 10 chain-reaction accidents on this route in a short period after Tet. The main cause remains the problem of safe distance. In bad weather conditions and heavy traffic, just a second of inattention or tailgating too closely can lead to a "car pile-up."
The incident on the morning of February 26th serves as another wake-up call for drivers: Keep a cool head and maintain a safe distance before hitting the gas pedal on high-speed roads.
