Vinh Thinh Bridge, part of the V Ring Road - Hanoi City, was started in December 2011 and inaugurated in June 2014. Vinh Thinh Bridge crosses the Red River, connecting Son Tay town (Hanoi) and Vinh Tuong district (Vinh Phuc).
With a length of nearly 5.5 km (of which the main bridge is 4.48 km long), Vinh Thinh Bridge is the longest river-crossing bridge in Vietnam. With this length, the main bridge of Vinh Thinh Bridge is twice as long as the main bridge of Long Bien Bridge (2,290 m) and nearly three times as long as My Thuan Bridge (1,535 m).
The Vinh Thinh Bridge project is invested by Thang Long Project Management Board. The total capital is 137 million USD, of which the ODA loan from Korea is 100 million USD and the counterpart capital of the Vietnamese Government is 37 million USD. The starting point of the project is at Km4 313m (intersection of National Highway 32 with the Son Tay town bypass). The end point of the project is at Km9 800m.
Vinh Thinh Bridge is designed to be permanent with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete. The bridge cross-section is 16.5 m wide for 4 lanes. The road at the bridgehead is designed with the standard of level 3 plain, maximum speed 80 km/h. The main bridge has a continuous box girder structure consisting of 9 prestressed reinforced concrete spans, constructed in balanced cantilever.
The approach bridge has a Super-T girder structure, each span is 40 m long. Along with the main section to cross the river, Vinh Thinh bridge has a system of approach roads by viaduct. In particular, the approach road on the side of Vinh Tuong district (Vinh Phuc) is quite long, running through a large riverside with many villages and farming areas of local people.
Vinh Thinh Bridge is not only an important traffic project but also brings many socio-economic benefits to the region. Connecting the northern provinces with the capital Hanoi has promoted economic development, creating favorable conditions for trade and exchange of goods. At the same time, the bridge also contributes to improving the quality of life of people, reducing travel time and transportation costs.
During the construction of Vinh Thinh Bridge, engineers and workers faced many challenges, including complex geological conditions and high technical requirements. However, with their efforts and sense of responsibility, they overcame all difficulties to complete the project on schedule and ensure quality.
After more than 10 years of operation, the longest river bridge in Vietnam has successfully replaced Vinh Thinh ferry, which was the main traffic artery connecting Son Tay (Hanoi) and Vinh Tuong (Vinh Phuc). The opening of Vinh Thinh bridge demonstrates the great efforts of the Transport sector in implementing the planning for the development of Hanoi Capital's Transport and the general planning of the Capital region to 2020, with a vision to 2030. In the future, the bridge will continue to play an important role in connecting regions and promoting the country's sustainable development.
Vinh Thinh Bridge is not only an impressive architectural work but also a symbol of international cooperation and development efforts of Vietnam. With its important role in the transportation system and great contributions to the socio-economic development, Vinh Thinh Bridge deserves to be recognized as one of the longest and most important river-crossing bridges in Vietnam.
The Vinh Thinh Bridge construction investment project has a total investment of 137 million USD, funded by ODA loans from Korea of 100 million USD and counterpart capital of the Vietnamese Government of 37 million USD. The bridge was started on December 18, 2011 and is expected to be completed after 36 months. However, the Vietnamese and Korean contractors, namely Traffic Construction Corporation 1, GS Engineering & Construction Corp (Korea), and Yooshin - Sambo Consulting Joint Venture (Korea), have made efforts to put Vinh Thinh Bridge into operation 7 months ahead of schedule to replace Vinh Thinh ferry.
According to Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Hong Truong, Vinh Thinh Bridge has 4 lanes (16.5m wide), designed speed of 80km/h, connecting National Highway 2C with two radial national highways (National Highway 32 and National Highway 2), Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, Ho Chi Minh Road will create a complete traffic system, connecting the center of the capital with the northwestern provinces such as Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang. Putting the bridge into operation will contribute to reducing traffic pressure on National Highways 2, 3, 6, and 32 when traveling through the center of Hanoi to the southern provinces and vice versa.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in June 2014, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung praised the relevant units for their efforts in working day and night to put Vinh Thinh Bridge into use, 7 months ahead of schedule. The Prime Minister assessed that this bridge is the dream of many generations of Hanoi - Vinh Phuc people. On the other hand, this is a bridge of great significance in the process of industrialization, modernization, socio-economic development, ensuring national security and defense of the Hanoi - Vinh Phuc region and the Northwestern provinces.
He thanked the Korean Government for providing ODA capital to build Vinh Thinh Bridge and affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is committed to making good use of ODA capital and ensuring the quality of construction works from this source of capital.
