The disease that made Oanh Nen almost retire: Unknown cause, seen in young people
Not long ago, Nguyen Thi Oanh revealed her dangerous illness, which seemed to swallow her career. The female athlete couldn't help but get emotional when recounting the stage of her illness.
Born and raised in Nhuan village - an idyllic rural village in My Ha, Lang Giang, Bac Giang communes, Nguyen Thi Oanh goes to school every day and helps her parents and sisters do all household chores, farm work outside of school like many other peers.
As a child, jogging with his friends on the village road, the way to school and then because of his interest and encouragement from the teachers, Oanh later participated in some school and district tournaments.
The female athlete herself and her relatives did not expect that one day the little country girl born in 1995, with a modest height of 1.53m, would become a "Golden Girl" to win resounding victories in the domestic, regional and continental sports arena, becoming a celebrity.
Teacher Nguyen Thanh Vinh, former PE teacher, Tien Luc Secondary School (Lang Giang) - who used to have a long time mentoring and coaching Nguyen Thi Oanh in the district athletics team, said that quality alone is not enough, because the pressure and intensity of training for athletics athletes is too great. Particularly, despite Oanh's small stature, he always persevered and tried his best to achieve his goals.
Nguyen Thi Oanh is favored by the media as the "Queen of Athletics" in Vietnam. Owning a series of noble titles from regional to continental levels but few people know, Oanh once experienced a dangerous disease that made her almost retire.
Accordingly, in 2014, after the end of the National Sports Games, female athletes noticed that the body appeared some strange manifestations, such as: edema from the neck to the face, swelling in many positions, often feeling tired and having strange body manifestations...
Nguyen Thi Oanh immediately visited the hospital and was diagnosed with acute glomerulonephritis. At that time, the young woman had to persistently try for treatment for more than half a year, undergo many regular follow-up visits, finally received the results of complete recovery and was able to return to training.
"I used to be very ill and I had to quit sports. It was a time of crisis, a lot of negative thoughts. But luckily I was encouraged by my family, teachers and friends to overcome it. But thinking back, thanks to sports, my treatment process was more convenient," Oanh said
This miraculous effort and luck became the motivation for Oanh to achieve the feat of becoming the first Vietnamese athlete, winning 4 individual gold medals in athletics in a SEA Games (including 2 gold medals in just 20 minutes).
With the above achievements and a strong will story, "Queen of Athletics" Nguyen Thi Oanh has excellently become 1 of 5 Inspirational Ambassadors of WeChoice Awards 2023. But not everyone is as lucky as she is to be able to return to the top of their careers.
Because, glomerulonephritis is a dangerous disease with many complications such as: chronic glomerulonephritis, relapse and kidney failure. Today the incidence of the disease increases significantly, especially among young people. So what are the causes, symptoms and prevention of this disease?
It is known that glomerulonephritis is a condition in which the glomeruli are damaged. The disease is divided into 2 forms: acute and chronic. The process of damage occurs in the glomeruli and blood vessels in the kidneys, leading to impaired kidney function, which is dangerous for patients such as: toxic stagnation, water stagnation...
Currently, the cause of this disease is still unclear, health experts believe that the pathology is rooted in:
- The body suffers from n.susceptibility: bacterial endocarditis, viral kidney infection...
- Autoimmune diseases: lupus erythematosus, goodpasture syndrome, IgA nephropathy...
- Vasculitis: polyangiculitis, granulomas with polyangiitis,...
- Scleroderma: derived from glomerular scarring, potentially scarring diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, focal glomerular atherosclerosis.
Other causes: certain cancers, such as stomach cancer, lung cancer and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Symptoms of glomerulonephritis can vary depending on the acute or chronic form and the cause. Some typical manifestations can be mentioned as:
- Change in urine color: pink or dark
- Foamy or bubbling urine due to excess protein
- Elevated blood pressure
- Swelling in the face, hands, legs and abdomen
- Urinating less than usual
- Nausea and vomiting
- Muscle cramps
- Fatigue and loss of appetite
- Complications of glomerulonephritis
Glomerulonephritis will reduce the ability of the kidneys to filter blood efficiently leading to the accumulation of waste products or toxins in the blood, poor regulation of essential minerals and nutrients, cell loss, loss of blood proteins. Dangerous complications of the disease include: acute renal failure, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome.
It is difficult to find a complete prevention of glomerulonephritis. However, people can minimize it by avoiding infection. In addition, it is necessary to practice a healthy lifestyle, drink enough water, limit processed foods, foods high in salt, regularly practice physical exercise, periodic health check-ups every 6-12 months, well control underlying diseases if any.
Glomerulonephritis is dangerous because the disease proceeds silently, is difficult to detect and can cause complications if not treated promptly. When the body shows suspicious symptoms, patients need to immediately go to reputable facilities for early examination, diagnosis and treatment, this is the best way to protect the health of themselves and their families.
