On December 8, BTS officially became the first K-pop group to be awarded the Certificate of Merit by the President of South Korea at the 5th Korean Charity Donation Awards. The event, organized by the Ministry of Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea in collaboration with the Korea Association of Charitable Organizations, aims to honor individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to charitable activities and making a positive impact on society.
In their acceptance speech, BTS expressed their pride and gratitude that the "LOVE MYSELF" campaign, in partnership with UNICEF since 2017, was recognized for its practical contributions to the community. The group shared:
"This award is not only for us, but also an encouragement to all those who believe in the message of 'love yourself and love the world'. We especially want to dedicate this honor to the ARMYs who have accompanied us to spread the campaign."
Since its launch, LOVE MYSELF has expanded to 155 countries, focusing on violence prevention, mental health awareness, and psychological support for children and adolescents around the globe. The campaign has reached more than 100 million people, making it one of UNICEF's most influential private partners in child protection.
BTS, along with Big Hit Music and their fans, have donated about 9.2 billion KRW (more than $6.2 million), accounting for 15% of UNICEF's total global child protection fund, a figure that few artists can achieve. In addition to international activities, the group also regularly contributes to local organizations in education, health, culture and social welfare. Some members are actively involved in charitable networks such as the UNICEF Korea Honors Club and the Green Noble Club, spreading the spirit of humanity to the global ARMY community, encouraging fans to participate in donations and volunteer activities.
This year, BTS stands with other prominent individuals and organizations in the field of philanthropy, including actor Go Doo-shim, businessman Yoon Young-so, Samsung Electronics, Dong-A Pharmaceutical, and SCK Company. Minister of Home Affairs and Safety Yoon Ho-jung said:
"Your generosity and acts of kindness have become the driving force for a healthier society. The government will continue to promote a positive culture of donation in the community."
Immediately after the information was announced, social networks were flooded with congratulations from ARMY around the world. Many fans expressed their pride when BTS not only affirmed their position in music but also created social influence: "Proud to love and support these inspiring people", "No matter how much drama they have, they are still recognized by the government. That's what is really precious", "No hate campaign can overshadow BTS' contributions to the world."
In parallel with being honored, Big Hit Music confirmed that BTS is in the process of preparing for a new album scheduled to be released in the spring of 2026, accompanied by a large-scale global tour. This will be the full return of 7 members since they all completed their military service, promising to bring memorable music experiences to fans around the world.
