On March 30, 2025, a YouTube channel called "Kim Mi Hyun Productions" suddenly posted a series of videos that were said to be leaked content from YG Entertainment.
Among them, the most notable are BLACKPINK-related videos, including footage before the group's official debut. These videos appear to be trainee judging sessions, where the members perform covers of popular songs.
The leak of BLACKPINK's never-before-released images immediately attracted great attention from the online community. However, what made fans talk more was that in some videos, members Jennie, Lisa and Rosé were said to have used N-Word during the performance. The word is inherently a sensitive term, often used in rap songs but also controversial because of its historical significance.
Besides, there are streams of opinions that are skeptical about the authenticity of these videos. Some people question whether this is really original content or has been edited using AI technology. The use of artificial intelligence to fake voices and images has become popular in recent times, leading many people to doubt the authenticity of these videos.
Contrary to the advocacy opinions, a part of netizens showed an uncompromising attitude. They harshly criticized the English-speaking members of the group for using this sensitive word, no matter the circumstances. Some argue that there are a lot of rap songs that don't contain the word, and that the trainees could have chosen other songs to perform instead of using controversial lyrics.
The incident also reminded many people of how society has changed over the past decade. Some argue that at the time, the use of N-Word in songs was not as strongly condemned as it is now.
Specifically, a Twitter account named @babe0flisaM commented: "I really don't understand why people make a big deal about this when they're just teenagers. Moreover, at that time, almost everyone used the word without being taken seriously. It was only when cancel culture developed in the streaming era that things became as demanding as they are now. This happened more than 10 years ago."
Although the online community is hotly debating the incident, as of now, YG Entertainment has not given any official response to this leak. Whether the company will speak out to protect its artists is still a big question mark, while public opinion continues to boil with mixed opinions.
