After the trap was successfully caught, to confirm that the turtle in Dong Mo Lake was the same species as the Sword Lake turtle, scientists took samples and sent them to two laboratories, the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources. and Department of Natural Resources and Conservation - Institute of Natural Resources and Environment - Hanoi National University. The results of genetic analysis of both units gave the same result, concluding that the analyzed sample belonged to the species of Sin-hoe prize, also known as Hoan Kiem tortoise.

Hoan Kiem turtle is the rarest turtle in the world with only 3 officially recorded individuals. One individual lives in To Chau Zoo (China), one individual in Xuan Khanh Lake (Hanoi) and one recently passed away in Dong Mo Lake.

The death of Hoan Kiem turtle in Dong Mo lake makes the conservation of this species facing many difficulties. To conserve this species, it is necessary to develop international cooperation between Vietnam, China, and possibly Laos in breeding work. It is urgent to continue the survey to identify any remaining populations of this turtle in Vietnam, China and Laos. Finally, it is necessary to continue to raise awareness for the community, especially the local people near Dong Mo Lake and Xuan Khanh Lake, about the importance of this giant softshell turtle as well as the relationship with the same species. with individual turtles with both biological values and cultural and spiritual values in Hoan Kiem Lake - Hanoi.
