BABYMONSTER just made fans proud when they "shared the same table" with famous names like BLACKPINK and BTS while performing their first world tour of their career.
On February 25, Spotify - the world's leading music and audio streaming platform - announced the "Global Impact List", honoring the most streamed Korean music globally in the second half of 2024.
This list not only reflects the strong influence of Korean music on the international market but also recognizes the outstanding achievements of domestic artists, helping them affirm their own mark on the world music map.
The list includes 30 songs by Korean artists released between July 1 and December 31, 2024, and has a huge audience outside of Korea. As expected, K-pop artists continue to dominate this special chart.
What surprised fans was the appearance of BABYMONSTER among a series of famous names. Although they have just debuted, the group has quickly established a foothold in the global market with two hits FOREVER (No. 11) and DRIP (No. 17).
BABYMONSTER was also named a Spotify RADAR Korea artist last year. The program plays a key role in discovering and supporting new artists, providing extensive promotional opportunities through editorial, online and offline marketing, and live performances such as RADAR LIVE. This shows Spotify's efforts to expand the influence of K-pop worldwide.
In addition to "BLACKPINK's little sister", another rookie girl group also appeared on the Global Impact list, MEOVV with the single MEOW, landing at number 30. This is a signal showing the growing interest of international audiences in the new generation of Kpop artists.
Topping the chart is Jimin's "WHO," the most-streamed song by a Korean artist in the second half of 2024. Unsurprisingly, BTS continues to prove their enduring appeal with a total of 10 songs making the list, including five solos by Jimin. Jin's "Running Wild" (No. 6), V's "Winter Ahead" (No. 9) and "White Christmas" featuring Bing Crosby also make it to No. 26, showcasing the musical diversity of each member.
Not to be outdone, BLACKPINK's Rosé made it onto the list with three songs, including: APT. (ranked 2nd), number one girl (ranked 13th) and toxic till the end (ranked 15th). Stray Kids impressed with a total of four songs, including "Chk Chk Boom" (ranked 4th), "I Like It" (ranked 20th), "Come Play" (ranked 21st) and JJAM (ranked 29th).
Other artists such as aespa, KISS OF LIFE and ENHYPEN also contributed to the chart with two songs each. Although Jennie only had one song "Mantra" on the chart, her position was not low at 3rd place, showing her great appeal.
Park Jung-joo, group music director at Spotify Korea, emphasized: "The Global Impact List is a clear testament to the strong spread of Korean music. In particular, the emergence of new groups such as BABYMONSTER and MEOVV along with global superstars like BTS shows a promising future for K-pop. With the growing interest from international audiences, Spotify is committed to continuing to create more opportunities for Korean artists to reach the global market."
Speaking more about BABYMONSTER, at the end of January, the group kicked off their first tour of their career called "Hello Monsters" with 2 shows in Seoul, Korea. Running a world tour right after releasing their first album, the group made fans extremely excited.
Following their concert in their home country, BLACKPINK's "little sisters" will visit 14 cities in the United States, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia for a total of 23 performances. This global journey marks an important milestone for the group as they continue to connect with fans around the world.
NewJeans "crushed" BLACKPINK, IU also gave up, 1 member's move attracted attention Phi Yến16:44:28 24/12/2024Despite being involved in a lot of noise, NewJeans' appeal has not diminished.
