Baby Three case suspected of having "cow tongue line": Seller suffers heavy losses, all because of ViruSs?

Once a hot toy with revenue of billions of VND/month, Baby Three is now plummeting due to the cooling of the blind box trend and suspicions of containing the illegal "cow tongue line".
Baby Three, also known as "baby three", dominated the collectible toy market in the second half of 2024. However, its appeal gradually declined along with the decline of the blind box toy line. In addition, in early March this year, suspicions about graffiti on the product that resembled the "cow tongue line" caused controversy on social networks, causing consumers to "turn away" more quickly.
In response to the above incident, in both traditional markets and social media platforms, Baby Three products were sold at a loss by sellers at prices up to half the previous price. However, according to many retailers, the market is still very gloomy, with the number of products sold being insignificant.
Ms. D.TH (owner of a toy store in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi) shared: "After the news of Baby Three having sensitive images, the purchasing power of this type of product dropped dramatically. Before that, the purchasing power of this type of product had already started to slow down, and with this incident, the market became even more gloomy.
Everyone is rushing to slash prices and sell off their goods in hopes of recouping some of their capital. However, the situation is not very optimistic even though the price has been reduced by 50%. Many people who are holding on to their goods are really confused and worried, like sitting on a bed of fire. Now they can't sell at a discount, and keeping the goods in stock is even more risky."
Mr. DHQ (a trader in Ha Dong, Hanoi) said that in recent days, the wave of "boycotting" Baby Three in Vietnam has spread widely, causing consumers to "turn around" faster, traders to panic, and the market to be in constant turmoil.
"Baby Three products used to be very popular, especially among young people. Before, I had to sell dozens of boxes every day, but now they are barely available, no one asks for them all day. I could not have predicted that this product would be boycotted as strongly as it is today, so I saved up money to buy a large quantity of goods.
"Sell at a loss now, it's not possible because it will be a double loss. Many people in the same situation advise us to hold onto our goods and wait for things to calm down before continuing to sell, but the market is changing every day, I really don't know how to handle it properly," said Mr. Q.
According to Tri Thuc - Znews, on groups specializing in buying and selling collectible toys, many sellers accept losses at prices starting from only 199,000 VND/box, significantly lower than the price fever period at the end of 2024. Even "hot trend" versions like Tho Thi Tran, which used to cost 350,000-500,000 VND/box, are now only 250,000 VND/box, which is "as cheap as free" but still sluggish.
Weak consumption caused sales of the Chinese toy to plummet in early 2025. March marked a clear downturn for the product, with sales hitting near their lowest point since the start of strong growth in October 2024.
In addition, data provided by the e-commerce data analysis platform EcomHeat also shows that the average price of Baby Three has been on a sharp downward trend over the same period. Specifically, from about 591,000 VND/box in the first week of January, the average price of "baby three" has decreased by nearly 50%, to about 305,000 VND/box in the first week of March, reaching the lowest level since the beginning of the year. With this situation, the most suffering are probably the small traders who still have a large amount of items in stock.
The Baby Three boycott wave began to explode after streamer ViruSs announced to stop selling the "Town Rabbit Ver.2" version because of suspicions of containing sensitive drawings. Many consumers then continuously called for a boycott, putting stores in a difficult situation. It was even harder to save when the Department of Market Management and Development stepped in, increasing inspections of the origin, provenance, and toxic substances on the toy that had caused a fever.
Baby Three suspected of having poison, sellers close down stores en masse, losing hundreds of millions of dong? Phượng Vũ14:29:20 16/03/2025After the Baby Three toy was widely protested, authorities stepped in to investigate. Sellers rushed to sell at a loss, risking losing hundreds of millions of dong.
