The Kpop fan community was recently stirred up by the news that BABYMONSTER's senior, Song Mino (WINNER), was expose.d by Dispatch with accusations of colluding with management to create fake attendance records.
Specifically, on December 17, Dispatch news agency accuse.d Song Mino of neglecting his military service, receiving favors from his superiors, and cheatin.g on his attendance records. The male idol moved to the Mapo Residence Convenience Facility in March this year, under the management of his superior, Mr. L.
According to Dispatchâs investigation, Song Mino was often absent and did not fulfill his responsibilities. They visited the facility more than 10 times from November to early December, but never met the male idol even once. Occasionally, he appeared, signaled to work, and then disappeared.
Not stopping there, during the second week of November, Dispatch stood at the gate from 9am to 7pm but did not see Song Mino appear. Other staff members there all replied: "I have never met him". Dispatch asked the WINNER member's superior about his subordinate's work status, but this person did not provide any data due to privacy reasons.
When the news agency asked Song Mino if he went to work, Mr. L. immediately gave the following reasons: "Today is annual leave", "Today is sick leave", "Today is hospitalization day"... On October 30, 2024, Mino went on a 6-day, 5-night trip to Hawaii and he did not go to work even after the trip.
This made Dispatch suspect that superiors favored WINNER members and cheated on attendance thanks to the manual attendance system. Because employees would sign their "attendance" next to the work date, creating conditions for mass "cheat" attendance.
However, by the afternoon of the same day, YG Entertainment had denied the accusations from the famous news agency. "Mino is completing his military service normally and all leave is in accordance with the appropriate rules and regulations," YG said.
The person in charge of the facility where Mino is serving his service also explained, "I arranged for Mino to work in a private room next door to avoid revealin.g his face, because many people come here (with the purpose of seeing the male idol). I emphasize that there is no way Mino is neglecting his work. We have had a meeting about this issue and are ready to answer any questions."
However, these statements did not convince the Korean public. Mino even received extremely fierce criticism from the public. Many opinions said that the male idol really did not act like a person performing military service when he had long, sloppy hair, often took sick leave, and traveled lavishly.
The Military Manpower Administration has begun investigating the allegations of Mino's actions. A representative of the agency said, "After the news about Song Mino was released, the authorities began investigating the allegations of failure to fulfill his duties. If the reports released this morning are true, the male idol may be punished under the Social Service Worker Act."
According to Korean regulations, social service workers have five types of leave, including annual leave, sick leave, humanitarian leave, emergency leave, and official holidays. A total of 31 days during the service period and 30 days of sick leave.
Annual leave cannot be used in conjunction with sick leave or alternative leave. Failure to do so will result in a warning or, in extreme cases, an extension of service. After receiving more than seven warnings, a social service worker may be charged with violating the military service law and sentenced to prison. Days spent in detention will not count towards the term of service.
