Recently, Kpop fans in general and BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER fans in particular were stirred up by an announcement from YG. Many people also expressed concern for the future of their idols.
Specifically, on January 17, YG Entertainment officially announced the termination of actor management activities, part of the company's corporate restructuring strategy to focus on music - its core field.
In a statement, YG expressed its deep gratitude to the actors who have accompanied the company throughout the years and thanked the fans for their love and support. The "big guy" also pledged to support the actors in resolving all issues related to their individual contracts until the last minute: "We will spare no effort to ensure that the actors receive the necessary support."
YG explained that they had private conversations with each actor about their contract situation. With this direction, dozens of actors under the management of the company will leave, typically Lee Soo Hyuk, Yoo In Na, Cha Seung Won, Jang Ki Yong, Kim Hee Ae, Yoo Seung Ho, Lee Sung Kyung...
The announcement from YG Entertainment surprised many people. Some netizens even speculated that the company was having financial problems and was about to collapse, which was why they made such a sudden decision. Meanwhile, fans of the groups still active under the company, especially BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER, expressed concern for the future of their idols.
But the truth is that in recent years, YG has taken steps to streamline and optimize its less profitable business areas while focusing on music development. Last year, the company completed the merger of YGX into the Global Training Center, helping to strengthen and internalize its expertise and capabilities.
In addition, the "giant" also expanded its internal production team from 10 members to more than 50 people, to improve and strengthen the company's production system. "We are constantly restructuring and adjusting the business to focus on core activities. We expect that 2025 will be the time when we start to see the first results from this strategy," a YG representative shared.
At the same time, the company further emphasized: "In addition to strengthening the sustainability of existing intellectual property (IP) assets, we will step up the exploration and development of new IP. Our goal is to continuously strengthen our core competencies while affirming our leading position in the music industry."
Notably, YG also announced the upcoming activities of the company's music artists. Accordingly, BABYMONSTER will start their world tour with a concert in Seoul this January. Meanwhile, Treasure will continue their world tour in October, after releasing their 3rd mini album.
In particular, the "big guy" said that all preparations have been completed, including the establishment of a separate internal project organization for BLACKPINK. The group will begin a global tour when they return this year.
Speaking more about BABYMONSTER's world tour, a few days ago YG attracted attention when announcing the addition of 4 concerts in Singapore on May 17, Hong Kong (China) on May 24 and Bangkok (Thailand) on June 7 and 8 for this tour. Thus, the group will meet fans in a total of 10 cities in 19 performances.
The set list for the upcoming concerts promises to include songs from their first full-length album âDripâ, solo stages, and an energetic performance with a live band. Fans are excited to see BABYMONSTERâs upgraded performances and growth.
