By 11:00 a.m. on August 10, Son La police and other authorities had found four victims, including one who died and three injured who were taken to Bac Yen District General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Regarding the landslide at the homestay in Ta Xua commune, Bac Yen district, Son La province, according to information from the People's Committee of Bac Yen district, due to the impact of storms and rain, on August 1, at Km14 500 of Provincial Road 112, a landslide occurred with a slope length of about 200m. Currently, the landslide is 40m long and 50m away from the road. The estimated volume of soil is 20,000m3.
According to the report, there are 3 business households with 12 items (Mando Duong Doan 6 items with 10 bungalows; Bep Tam 3 items; Duong Ngoc Quynh 3 items with 7 bungalows) affected. There is a risk of affecting 5 households with houses below.
Previously, at about 4:15 a.m. on August 10, 2024, in Ta Xua village, Ta Xua commune, Bac Yen district, Son La, a landslide occurred with an estimated volume of over 50,000m3 of soil and rock, burying 02 homestay facilities Mando, Bo Bin and Bep Tam Restaurant, resulting in houses being buried and completely damaged, 01 person lost his life, 03 people were injured.
By 11:00 a.m. on August 10, 2024, Son La Police and other authorities had found 4 victims, of whom 1 person had passed away and 3 injured people had been taken to Bac Yen District General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Notably, previously, at the above location, a landslide occurred on August 5, 2024. The District Police coordinated to relocate assets, warned people, put up warning signs and mobilized businesses and households near the landslide risk to relocate to a safe place. The homestay where the landslide occurred was not licensed. The District discovered the violation and requested its demolition many times, but the owner still did not dismantle it and continued to accept guests to stay overnight.
Immediately after receiving the information, Bac Yen District Police mobilized forces, vehicles, and rescue equipment, urgently coordinated with functional forces to search for victims, take injured people to emergency care, move property, and regulate traffic.
Currently, the District Police and Commune Police are continuing to support people in evacuating their assets, warning and supporting households in areas at risk of landslides to move to a safe place.
The Son La Police are continuing to collect related documents and evidence. If any signs of crime are discovered, it will be handled according to the provisions of law.
The Ministry of Public Security recommends that people pay close attention and be cautious when living and traveling in areas at high risk of landslides, especially in unusual rainy and flood weather conditions; regularly monitor and comply with warnings and instructions from authorities to ensure the safety of life and property for themselves, their families and businesses.
Before the accident on August 10, the hilly and mountainous areas had experienced heavy rain for many days, the soil was saturated with water, so even a small impact or a small rain could trigger a landslide. Currently, Bac Yen district is focusing on propaganda, advising people living in areas near large rivers and streams not to go fishing; not to live near areas with rivers and streams.
The local Party Committee and authorities have disseminated information, posted warning signs of danger; directed and sent working groups to work, made a commitment record, and requested households and homestays in the area to move out of the slide and not stay in areas at risk of landslides. Bac Yen district has also directed departments, offices, and communes to proactively monitor weather developments and implement disaster prevention and control measures to minimize damage.
