Venom, who first made his big screen debut as the main villain in Spider Man 3 (2007), has now been given a different perspective on the space parasite. It has undergone a "moral reformation" by Sony Pictures.
The infamous space parasite has now captured the hearts of the public thanks to its innocent and kind image when coexisting with journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), "standing shoulder to shoulder" to confront other bloodthirsty villains. In Venom: The Last Dance (Venom: Last Dance), fans will witness the end of a memorable, emotional, happy and sad journey between the "team" Eddie and Venom, and at the same time, it is the "debut" for Spider-Man's arch-enemy to "officially" set foot in the MCU universe under the Mouse House.
Continuing the events left unfinished in part 2, Eddie and Venom are now wanted nationwide by the US government because of the "mess" the couple left behind after the fight with Carnage. Here, the film reveals the identity of Knull, a cruel, brutal evil god who existed before the universe was born. Imprisoned by his own Symbiote children in Klyntar, Knull calls Xenophage, the natural enemy of the Symbiote species, to Earth to hunt down Venom.
Needless to say, Venom: The Last Dance treated the Marvel "citizens" to a feast of eye-catching, epic action. The chases from two factions, the US government and Xenophage, aimed at the "couple of circumstances" brought the ultimate excitement that the audience had been waiting for for 3 years. The film was pushed to its climax when the Symbiote brothers were revealed in the trailer to join forces to fight against the evil Xenophage. A plus point for the third sequel of Venom when it painted a bloody but realistic reality in the battle of life and death, where death is waiting to trap even the most beloved characters.
Graphics and special effects are all done perfectly, bringing extremely vivid footage, especially when the camera pans to Xenophage, even though it is all a product of CGI. Remote filming techniques are also used during the escape from Xenophage and Strickland's army, taking the audience on a difficult, dramatic journey in the vast desert space. Notably, the production team also used anti-gravity cameras combined with anti-shake handles, capturing every movement of the Symbiote fragment's tentacles a few centimeters below the ground to a 2m7 tall Venom in "full armor" form.
The first Easter egg and the theme that runs through the entire 107 minutes of the Sony Pictures blockbuster is Area 51. In reality, this is a secret military base in Nevada, USA, which is the center of many rumors and conspiracy theories spread on social networks, related to UFOs, advanced military technology and even alien research. The US government only confirmed the existence of this area in 2013, but many information about the activities inside are still kept secret.
Tom Hardy is a charming male god that everyone loves, famous for his action movies and breathtaking fights. Therefore, the character Eddie is not difficult for him because... it does not require much in terms of acting. Eddie is sloppy, disheveled, the whole movie revolves around a sullen, bored appearance. Tom Hardy only needs to walk back and forth, chat with Venom a few sentences and just be handsome to play the role.
The plus point is that the "chemistry" between the "enemies" is extremely compatible and charming. One throws the other one catches, both push each other, throwing a "basket" of dry humour while the facial expressions do not change at all, creating situations that make the audience laugh out loud. Their bond is not only limited to a symbiotic relationship but also develops into a close brotherhood, going through life and death together.
The downside is that Venom has some scenes that are quite forced and awkward, which are supposed to be funny but "betray" the original. As a result, such jokes are more awkward, even creepy. Some unnecessary characters are added to the film, such as the Martin Moon hippie family. Their enthusiasm and hospitality have no impact on the psychological development of Eddie and Venom, or create any outstanding turning points. Dr. Teddy Payne's flashback scene about the past is also equally out of place, causing the end of the film to break the climax.
