Tran The Trung: The first Olympia champion did not study in Australia, but studied at the most expensive school in Vietnam

Tran The Trung is known not only as the 2019 Olympia Champion but also as the first Champion in Olympia history who decided not to study abroad in Australia but to stay in Vietnam to study.

Most of the champions who came out of the Olympia program received scholarships to study abroad in Australia. After completing their studies, some people choose to stay abroad to develop their careers, others return home to build their future. Among them, there was a champion who achieved the highest honor in the competition but in the end decided to stay in Vietnam to study.

The identity of this champion is Tran The Trung - a former student of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Nghe An province. The Trung was originally the valedictorian of the Physics class at Phan Boi Chau Specialized School - a famous school not only in Nghe An but throughout the country.

Tran The Trung won the Silver Medal in the National Internet Olympic English Competition (IOE) in the 2016 - 2017 school year; Consolation Prize of the XXII Nghe An Province Young Informatics Contest 2016.

In grade 11, Trung won the first prize in Physics at the exam for excellent students in Nghe An province and the Consolation prize in the final of the 2018 National Student English Olympiad.

Having excellent academic performance, Trung was trusted by his teachers to join the team to compete in the National Excellent Student Competition. However, the dream of conquering Olympia made the Nghe student refuse everything.

Trung has been watching Olympia since he was young, but there was a time when he stopped watching because of his studies. The 15th year Olympia final match, Trung and his sister watched together. At that time, his sister advised Trung to try Olympia. "After that time, she continued to encourage me and told me to look in Nhat Minh's mirror to try harder. She always supported me in every step I took" - Trung shared.

For Trung, his older sister is always the one who "spreads the fire" and is the spiritual support for his student to overcome difficulties. However, something unfortunate happened to Trung's family. When Trung was about to enter 9th grade, his older sister, who was a student at Foreign Trade University, unfortunately had an accident and passed away. This became a huge shock for Trung. Luckily, male students always have friends and teachers by their side to encourage and share.

Turning pain into action, Trung was determined to study to conquer her dream. The student always tries to study in class so that he can go home and have time to improve his knowledge and participate in other activities.

With unremitting efforts and tenacious competitive spirit, Trung won the weekly, monthly and quarterly competitions to win the first ticket to attend the 19th Olympia competition final. An interesting point In Nghe An, this male student is often called the "breakthrough expert who turns the situation around". And with all his efforts, Tran The Trung excelled in becoming the person wearing a laurel wreath on the stage of the Olympia final in the 19th year.

Immediately after Trung's "breathtaking" victory, many comments from the audience were also sent to the owner of the 19th year Olympia Laurel. According to Tran The Trung's teacher, in preparation for the Olympia competition, and to inspire everyone to practice together, he found a way to code software that simulates the program format. He focused on continuously running simulations of exam scenarios to research the optimal strategy for each situation. This is methodical, serious, and passionate preparation.

In addition, he can play the guitar and sing quite well. Trung used to participate in the Music, Basketball, Model United Nations, Journalism and Propaganda Clubs, and also held the role of Head of the Technical Committee of Noi San newspaper at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted (Nghe An). Besides, Trung also regularly follows news reports and participates in online intellectual competitions.

The scientific arrangement of time and training in many fields has given Trung comprehensive knowledge to conquer the "mountain top" of Olympia. The above activities also help climbers to be active and creative rather than "bookworms".

In August 2020, 10x completed the national high school exam, achieving quite impressive scores. Specifically, 10x scored Math 8.20; Literature 8.25; History 9.00; Geography 9.50; GDCD 9.50; As for foreign languages, because I have an IELTS certificate, I do not have to take the exam.

After becoming the Olympia Champion, Trung also chose to study Graphic Design at Swinburne University (Australia) but had to study online due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. After 6 months of studying online, Trung found it ineffective and felt a lack of connection in the classroom.

Faced with the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic and Australia not yet "opened", in June 2021, Tran The Trung decided to withdraw his application from Swinburne University and apply to RMIT University Hanoi with the same major. .

As a student at the famous RMIT school, The Trung said that most of the tuition and living expenses are paid by male students with the prize money of 35,000 USD (nearly 850 million VND) for the champion of the Olympia program.

Tran The Trung once shared that he was under a lot of pressure after becoming the Olympia champion. Everyone seemed to put too many expectations on this male student, so sometimes he felt uncomfortable. After many years of trying, Tran The Trung has gradually escaped the "shadow" of that year's champion title to focus on new plans in the future.

Currently, besides studying, Tran The Trung also participates in many clubs, movements, and extracurricular activities at school.
