Netflix has just released the official poster and trailer for the second season of Wednesday, revealin.g the first details in the mysterious new case of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega.
In the official poster for Wednesday 2, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) is seen tied to a chair. The Thing - Wednesday's right hand, confidant and "bodyguard" - is on her shoulder. Wednesday is wearing "faded mascara" with black tear stains on her face.
In the teaser trailer, Wednesday is seen going through airport security. As she passes through the metal detector, she is forced to remove shiny objects from her person. Notably, they are not keys or coins, but knives, swords, and other weapons that are not easy to name. In the end, what stops Wednesday is the Thing's sunscreen.
It's not clear where Wednesday is headed to at the airport, but in the next scene, we see her in a car with the rest of the Addams family on the way to Nevermore Academy. The new semester has started, and Nevermore has added a new batch of students. Among them is Wednesday's younger brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). Director Tim Burton has said that having family show up at school is the worst thing that can happen to a person, and it's unclear whether Wednesday shares that view, but now she and her brother are in the same school.
The producers of Wednesday have previously teased that they want to delve deeper into the lives of the remaining Addams family members in Wednesday 2. As a result, as seen in the teaser trailer and some of the first images of season 2, Pugsley shows off his superpowers. His hand sparks with electricity and he shoots down a sign that says Jericho is 5 miles away.
Meanwhile, Morticiaâs mother (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomezâs father (Luis Guzmán) are indulging in a romantic dance. Morticiaâs complicated mother, Wednesdayâs grandmother, and her closest ally, Hester (Joanna Lumley), appears elegant and mysterious. And Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) is taking a bubble bath and playing with yellow plastic ducks.
Someone tells Wednesday that "every family has dark secrets." It's unclear what those "secrets" are, but it probably (and hopefully) doesn't involve Uncle Fester's ducks.
Back at Nevermore Academy, Wednesday reunites with her roommate Enid (Emma Myers), a cute, pink-haired werewolf. Wednesday seems happy, as evidenced by the slight curl of her lips. Wednesday even "excitedly" gives Enid a doll. When Wednesday "reveals" that the doll's hair is made from real human hair, Enid's smile seems to fade, but she also seems to understand her eccentric roommate's feelings, like "I only give this to you if you're a real lady".
In Wednesday 2, Wednesday also reunites with another old acquaintance, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), who is a gentle bartender during the day but turns into a monster at night. In the first season, Wednesday gave Tyler her first kiss, but in season 2, they meet again rather coldly and can be said to be "hateful".
Meanwhile, the character Xavier Thorpe - a talented painter who can turn pictures into real objects and always cares for Wednesday - did not appear in Wednesday 2, suspected to have been cu.t from his role due to his private life scanda.l.
In Wednesday 2, Wednesday returns to school for the first time of her own free will. After what she went through in season 1, she thought she knew about Nevermore, and she thought she had it all under control. Wednesday believed she knew where all the bodies were buried. But things didn't turn out the way she expected, and it seemed like she didn't know anything after all.
In addition to the content, the format of the broadcast also arouses curiosity. Specifically, this platform confirmed that Wednesday season 2 will be divided into two separate releases - part 1 will be released on August 6 and part 2 will continue on September 3.
Splitting Wednesday season 2 into two parts is not new to Netflix, which has used a similar strategy for hit series like Stranger Things and Bridgerton. It's seen as a smart move to keep viewers interested for longer, while also generating buzz and social media discussion between episodes.
