Not knowing anything about the character Venom, actor Tom Hardy accepted the role as a way to please his beloved son, but ended up having another memorable role in his career.

Venom is considered Spider-Man's most iconic enemy in the comic book world, the first Marvel villain to get his own movie. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the blockbuster Venom still earned more than $856 million, 8 times its production budget, and was the stepping stone to open a new cinematic universe unrelated to Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In the series, Tom Hardy plays journalist Eddie Brock. After an incident, a symbiote (alien parasite) invades and lives symbiotically on his body, forming the entity Venom. From then on, Eddie lives two lives, constantly transforming between a normal person and an alien monster.

In essence, Eddie and Venom both have noble goals in life, and have often teamed up to destroy villains. However, their methods of action are sometimes somewhat brutal. Venom: The Last Dance (Venom: The Last Dance) has just been released in theaters, marking the separation of the two characters in a situation where both are on the run from the police and facing the invasion of other symbiote species.

According to Variety, Tom Hardy received a salary of 20 million USD for the final film, three times the salary he received for the first film. Ruben Fleischer, director of the first Venom, commented that Tom Hardy was able to portray the dual personalities of Eddie and Venom, while also conveying the complexity of the character. Through that, the actor harmoniously balanced the image of two different individuals in the same body.

When preparing for the role, Tom Hardy was guided by his son on how to express the character's demeanor and spirit in the most authentic way possible. The actor's performance in the film was also inspired by many other characters: director Woody Allen's wit, boxer Conor McGregor's ferocity, and rapper Redman's eccentric personality. Regarding Venom's voice, Tom wanted to have a strange, energetic, seductive, yet still scary and dangerous voice. The voices of Redman, Busta Rhymes, and James Brown were the reference materials that helped Tom Hardy create Venom's unique voice.

After the first film achieved huge revenue, the actor became the storyteller and producer for the following two parts. Looking back on his journey to become Venom for more than half a decade, Tom Hardy expressed: "I really loved playing Eddie and Venom. This is one of the best things I've ever done in my life. So I will be very sad to see the character go." However, the actor has no regrets because he has devoted himself completely to the role.
