Henry, former member of Super Junior-M, solo career still shines

Super Junior-M's Henry was once a member highly regarded by both the company and the public in many different fields. Although he left the group, he is still very active and has achieved many successes in his career.

Henry's real name is Henry Lau, Chinese name is Liu Xian Hua, born on October 11, 1989 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is known as a male singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer from Canada based in South Korea and China. He is also a former member of the sub-group Super Junior-M under SM Entertainment.

Henry was born and raised in Willowdale, Toronto, one of the wealthiest areas of Toronto, Ontario. His father is of Hong Kong descent and his mother is of Pingtung, Taiwan. His father works in real estate and his mother is a housewife. He has a younger sister named Whitney born in 1993 and an older brother named Clinton born in 1988. His brother is also the CEO of his current label Monster Entertainment Group. Henry attended Kenollie Public Schools in Port Credit, Mississauga, Steelesview, Zion Heights Junior High School and North Toronto Collegiate Institute in Grade 9.

He then attended AY Jackson Secondary School in Toronto before auditioning for SM Entertainment Global Audition in Toronto, Ontario in 2006. He continued his studies at the University of Toronto for a short period in 2007, majoring in Music Performance. He received a full scholarship to the top music performance university Berklee College of Music Boston and studied there from May 2010 to August 2010. However, due to the schedule of the subgroup Super Junior-M, Henry was unable to complete the course. Since then, the professors have agreed to let him return to the school at any time to continue his studies while still keeping his scholarship. He is proficient in Violin, Piano, Popping, Guitar, Drums, and Singing.

Henry started learning to play the piano from his mother when he was 5 years old and the violin at 6 years old. He also learned Boogaloo Popping in high school. After learning to dance for about a year, he started participating in dance competitions and shows. Henry has won many awards such as the Canadian Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) for Violin Level 10. He was also a drummer for his middle school band. He said that he wanted to play the violin professionally but never thought about becoming an idol star before auditioning for SM Entertainment in 2006. He also said that he chose to join the company because if he became a classical musician, he would not have the opportunity to sing, dance, play the piano and violin at the same time.

On June 7, 2013, Henry debuted as the first solo singer in 13 years under SM Entertainment and released the Mini Album "Trap". He is also a member of the music production group Noizebank. The group has 4 members including Henry Lau, Gen Neo, Neil Nallas and Isaac Han. In 2018, Henry decided to leave SM Entertainment after his contract expired. He established his own studio and joined Monster Entertainment Group.

On the talk show "Knowing Brothers", Super Junior-M's Henry shared the story of his first love and how they dated for 7 years before breaking up. He also said that his ex-girlfriend cheated on him when she was in a relationship with his best friend. Since then, his heart seemed to break when he found out. Super Junior member Heechul also attended the show as a guest and revealed that "Henry has dated a few girls since coming to Korea but would always end things before the relationship became serious". Henry still maintained that since coming to Korea, he has not had a girlfriend. After that, dating rumors between Super Junior-M's Henry and SNSD member Sunny started a long time ago because the two were so close.

Although the couple has never confirmed or denied, fans have not found clear evidence that Henry and Sunny are a couple. In addition, SM Entertainment has been very accommodating to fans by letting the two collaborate in the SM Station 2 project and sing a romantic duet called "U & I". This song was composed by Henry, Sunny participated in editing the lyrics and the two even wore wedding clothes to perform on stage.
