More than six years after their divorce, actors Quang Minh and Hong Dao have both entered a new phase of their lives. While they no longer share the stage as they did when they were a beloved artistic couple overseas, their names and private lives continue to be of interest to the audience.
While Hong Dao chose an optimistic single life, prioritizing her work and personal experiences, Quang Minh attracted attention when he had a son with his girlfriend, who is 37 years younger than him.
Recently, attention has been drawn to the 67-year-old actor after he gifted a valuable property deed and built a house for his young girlfriend. A series of blueprints showed the spacious new house, a gift for his partner in her final years. This detail immediately sparked debate on social media because, while he was still married to Hong Dao, he rarely publicly gave valuable gifts to his ex-wife.
Many viewers commented that his actions seemed to favor the new person over the old one, creating a noticeable disparity.
Furthermore, the public discovered another detail that sparked further discussion: Quang Minh took his young girlfriend to visit his parents' graves.
In the post, he briefly shared, "Today we're going to visit Mom and Dad," as a way of introducing his future daughter-in-law to the family. This is said to have never happened when he was still living with Hong Dao. Some comments under the post suggested that the actor had changed his behavior and appreciated his new partner more than before. Others argued that each stage of life brings different circumstances and ways of thinking, so comparisons are inappropriate.
Returning to Quang Minh himself, he once shared about his greatest regret in life: not being able to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) with his parents while he was in America. For many years, during the Lunar New Year, his two children were busy with studying and working, and he and Hong Dao couldn't arrange to return to Vietnam at the right time. The family usually tried to visit relatives before or after Tet, disrupting traditional customs. When his parents were still alive, he once promised to return home for the New Year, but that promise never came true. "What I regret most in my life, what I feel guilty about, is not being able to celebrate Tet with my parents for so many years. Now I want to make up for it, I long for the feeling of togetherness like in the old days, but there's no longer an opportunity," the actor shared.
In his childhood memories, Tet (Lunar New Year) for Quang Minh meant cleaning the house, helping his father polish the bronze incense burner, waiting for his mother to sew new clothes, all joyful despite the family's modest finances at the time. After settling in the US around 1990, he began to feel a completely different Tet atmosphere: less bustling, mainly focused on performing for the Vietnamese diaspora community, and on New Year's Eve and the first day of the new year, he could only call relatives to wish them a happy new year via the small screen.
Quang Minh was an actor in the Kim Cuong and Bong Hong troupes before moving to the United States. After his stage career, he participated in films and became more widely known to domestic audiences through works such as "Let Me Get Closer to You," "I'm Not Yet 18," "Finding a Husband for My Mother," and "The Butterfly House." However, his biggest mark remains his comedic career with Hong Dao, becoming a popular comedic duo overseas for many years.
As for Hong Dao, the actress chose a peaceful single life, maintaining her work, a polished image, and positive energy. Although they no longer share the stage, both are still remembered by audiences as a beautiful part of Vietnamese theater history.
Quang Minh has been criticized for looking worn out since dating a younger woman, while Hong Dao is the complete opposite!
