Mentioning Thien Tu is mentioning a young actress, but experienced in her career. Born in 1991, she was once known as a child talent of the Vietnamese screen with roles in a series of works Ao lua Ha Dong, Huyen thoai bat tu...
In 2005, Thien Tu first entered acting with the role of Ngo in the film Ao lua Ha Dong by director Luu Huynh. At that time, Thien Tu was only 15 years old but successfully conquered the audience with her expressive acting. After Ao lua Ha Dong, she continued to appear in another notable project, Huyen thuy bat tu, by director Dustin Nguyen and was highly appreciated for her acting ability. This role also brought her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2007 Golden Kite Awards.
With a delicate face and natural acting style, Thien Tu was "sought after" for roles that required good inner expression. She continued to play the leading role in the independent film For June (2012) directed by Nguyen Huu Tuan. In the first half of the 2010s, Thien Tu was among the group of promising female actors of Vietnamese cinema alongside Lan Ngoc, Thuy Anh, Thanh Tu, and Nha Phuong.
Although he is famous in the acting field, few people know that Thien Tu is also very passionate about Chinese language and culture. Tu has been exposed to Chinese since middle school and has always persevered in his academic path until today.
With his talent for languages and arts, after graduating from high school in 2009, Thien Tu received a 1-year scholarship to study at the Shandong Academy of Arts (China). In 2010, when he returned to Vietnam and studied at the University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Thien Tu won first prize in the 9th Chinese Bridge Competition. In 2011, Tu continued to receive a full scholarship to complete his bachelor's degree in language and culture at the Institute of Chinese Language, Beijing Normal University.
After that, Tu studied for a Master's degree in Theory and Practice of Stage Directing at the Central Academy of Drama (Beijing). She chose China to continue her studies because she wanted to take advantage of her solid language foundation and deep understanding of the local culture.
In 2017, she returned to Vietnam and participated in the new project Scarred Heart. In the film, Thien Tu plays Nhai, a young orphan girl who is fortunate to be taken in by Mr. Lam (People's Artist Bui Bai Binh), an old war invalid. Scarred Heart brings together a cast of veteran actors of the Vietnamese screen such as People's Artist Bui Bai Binh, Meritorious Artist Ta Minh Thao, Hoa Thuy...
Once considered one of the most promising actors on the Vietnamese screen, Thien Tu chose to study abroad instead of "wholeheartedly" devoting herself to acting. In recent years, Thien Tu has become more active in the arts. She is also quite famous on the Tik Tok platform with her personal channel named Tu Man Thau.
Rising from clips covering Vietnamese songs with Chinese lyrics, TikToker Tu Man Thau's channel is loved by young people thanks to his meticulous investment, accurate translation of lyrics, and warm, attractive voice. At the same time, Tu Man Thau is also very "fan-friendly" when continuously releasing new products according to fans' opinions.
Thien Tu shared: "My friends and I try to invest in translating the lyrics as carefully as possible. Some songs take a day, but some take a whole week. One of my advantages is that I studied abroad in Beijing, so I can handle the lyrics well. Being exposed to the artistic environment since childhood also helps me a lot in performing in an attractive way. For each song, I often annotate the lyrics in each video in both Chinese characters, pinyin transcription and Vietnamese, to help some friends both entertain and learn the language."
Tu Man Thau sees trying TikTok, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a new way to meet audiences. "I thank the audience for loving and actively following me, which has helped us achieve initial success beyond expectations," she said.
Thien Tu herself once shared in an interview that the idea for the TikTok channel Tu Man Thau was a combination of her two hobbies: singing and translation - hobbies that have helped her a lot in learning foreign languages. Not only investing in the translation of lyrics, Thien Tu also knows how to "catch trends", making "crazy" clips that make fans excited.
In the near future, Thien Tu will play Thi Xoan in the movie Cam - considered the biggest Vietnamese historical blockbuster of 2024. In Cam, Thien Tu is a member of Tam Cam's family and is also a new creation in the movie version. From the scenes revealed in the trailer, Thi Xoan was chosen by Hai Hoang (Quoc Cuong), Tam Cam's father, to be sacrificed in a peace-praying ceremony. This is one of the horrifying scenes that makes viewers' hearts skip a beat because of the character's appearance.
Currently, there is still no answer to Thi Xoan's role in the film, whether she is related to the series of horrifying events in Cam's village or not, only knowing that she seems to be a beautiful, gentle girl who lives a resigned life in her family.
The audience also raised many questions about this character, when her name is a combination of two types of trees, Thi and Xoan. Both Thi and Xoan appear in the fairy tale Tam Cam, as reincarnations on Tam's journey to return to the king. It is the series of new details and surrounding mysteries that make the audience want to discover more about Thi Xoan as well as the movie Cam.
