Commenting on the role of Mr. Tuong in the old singing troupes, To Thien Kieu described, Mr. Tuong has an inviolable position, only behind his grandparents. The success of the singing troupe also depends greatly on Mr. Tuong because he is the one who captures the tastes of the audience and writes the artist's forte.

Although Mr. Tuong held such a powerful role, his life was not very prosperous. According to writer To Thien Kieu, her father is a master but not very well off because of social changes. The female composer said that during the golden age of Cai Luong, a written play could buy several houses.
