After Lisa and Jennie, Rosé also surprised everyone with the unannounced release of the song " APT." featuring pop star Bruno Mars. Blackpink fans are excited as the members continuously release new music products.
Less than a day after releasing the poster, Rosé (BLACKPINK) and Bruno Mars released a globally shocking collaboration MV called APT. Breaking away from her "girl crush" image from her time working in YG, this time Rosé surprised many by bringing a song with a strong Pop-Punk style, "rocking the roof" with the King of Pop Bruno Mars.
Notably, on the same afternoon, "APT." climbed to number 8 on the US iTunes chart.
"APT." surpassed Jennie's "Mantra" (No. 27), becoming the highest-charting debut by a female K-pop solo artist on US iTunes in 2024. Rosé is also the first Asian female artist in history to debut directly into the Top 10 of this chart.
By the evening of October 18, "APT." climbed to number 5 on US iTunes and ranked number 1 on iTunes in 32 regions.
On YouTube, the MV "APT." is currently trending at number 1 globally, surpassing 10 million views after 9 hours of release.
In the Korean market, the song by Rosé (Blackpink) and Bruno Mars quickly rose in the rankings. As of 10 p.m., "APT." had entered the top 5 of the Melon Top 100 chart, climbed to the top 5 of Genie, top 29 of Flo, and dethroned "Mantra" by Jennie as the top 1 of Bugs.
According to Rolling Stone, "APT." evokes memories of Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl." British music magazine NME gave "APT." a perfect 5/5, commenting: "The Blackpink star has long proven she knows how to craft a killer song. "On The Ground" and "Gone" - solo tracks she released through YG Entertainment in 2021 - clearly demonstrate her impeccable pop talent.
But on "APT.", the first taste of Rosé's new solo chapter with Atlantic Records, she takes a giant leap forward and makes a bold statement."
Honestly, Rosé's voice has never sounded better than it does on this track. There's a power and confidence to her voice that far surpasses her previous performances. The classic pop-rock beats, coupled with a personable demeanorâwith hues of Toni Basil, Blondie, and Joan Jettâseem to suit Rosé as an artist.
Enchanting, flirty, and downright hilarious, âAPT.â is the perfect opening to Rosé's new chapter.
In an interview with Vogue magazine, Rosé said she co-wrote the song with Bruno Mars and was inspired by a Korean drinking game called "A-pa-thu" - the Korean pronunciation of the word Apartment.
Rosé shared: "Apartment is a game that I really like. I remember coming home from the studio that day in a state of panic. Not knowing if it was okay to write a song about this drinking game. Then I fought with the members of the crew to delete the song from their phones. Until I realized that everyone was obsessed with it."
During the process of making APT, Rosé and Bruno Mars also agreed to keep the Korean pronunciation of "A-pa-thu" as a way to respect the original inspiration of the song.
Apartment (A-pa-thư) is the name of a famous Korean drinking game. The rules of the game are that a group of people will sing the phrase "a-pa-thư a-pa-thư a-pa-thư" and then randomly stack their hands on top of each other. One member will say the number of floors they want to choose. Then each person will pull their hand from bottom to top. Whoever puts their hand last to match the designated number of floors will be the loser and must drink. On her personal page, Rosé herself also posted a clip instructing fans on how to play the game APT and the "end" was that she was the loser.
