Butler: The profession mentioned by Thai Cong on livestream, huge income, high requirements

In his second livestream session on the evening of January 16, designer Thai Cong mentioned a job that is well-trained and professional abroad but in Vietnam there are few places to teach.

That is the Family Housekeeping major. The designer also said that this major has special and extremely strict requirements, but the income and benefits are very attractive.

What field of study is home housekeeping? What is the specific job like?

Butler comes from the phrase " buteler", meaning those who were in charge of the king's banquets. However, today the concept of housekeeping is used with more meanings, simply understanding the need to ensure cleaning, finances, cooking,... in the family. That means, they must be someone who covers everything, has extensive knowledge and great qualities that make the homeowner satisfied.

Some specific tasks that a housekeeper must perform every day include:

- Respond to communications made via phone, text, letters, social networks, etc. Make sure no information is left out.

- Greet and welcome guests who come to visit the family and see them off according to the family's own standards and rules.

- Coordinate the maintenance and preservation of works of art such as antiques, silverware, property, paintings, medals, etc. of the family.

- Manage other important assets, including wine, cigars, books and cars.

- Monitor monthly budget and security, as well as inventory family assets. Balance and clearly distribute monthly income and expenditure.

- Plan small family events such as year-end parties, New Year's parties,... and be responsible for monitoring when the events are held.

- Sourcing and training new employees, managing other in-house staff, and administering payroll.

Requirements to become a professional housekeeper

To become a housekeeper, you need to meet certain requirements, depending on each family. But in general, you will have to ensure the following criteria:

- Having relevant certificates or previous experience as a housekeeper is an advantage. That's why many families often ask you to provide seniority.

- Have knowledge about wine, cooking and eating processes, and how to "set up" banquet tables.

- Proficient in planning, purchasing and maintaining supplies and inventory.

- Have perfect organizational, planning and problem solving skills.

- Be sensitive to all surrounding information to best support your work.

- Ability to delegate activities and manage others.

- Conversation and communication skills with family guests.

Where to learn the Butler profession? How is the income?

Housekeeping is an extremely new field of study not only in Vietnam but also in many other countries, especially in Asia. In 2020, Shanghai Open University (China) opened this specialized training program and affirmed the extremely attractive output quality. Students will study Sociology, Family Aesthetics, Nutrition,... and foreign language (English).

Or the International Butler Academy (China) is also a professional training place for those interested in this profession. Despite the "exorbitant" tuition fee of up to 18,145 USD/course (more than 386 million VND). Teaching at the academy are famous butlers from Switzerland, Belgium, America and Canada. The academy is the place that produces a series of butlers, personal assistants, servants, maids, nannies, etc. for aristocrats, politicians and wealthy families.

It is known that graduates of the academy can earn a salary of 30,000 - 90,000 pounds (equivalent to about 1 billion - 3.1 billion VND) per year working for the super-rich class in China.

In Vietnam, in 2012, the Central College of Education also opened a new major, Family Economics. Mr. Dang Loc Tho - Head of the school's training department once shared: "Family Economics is also known as Housekeeping Training. After graduating, students can work as economic management consultants in family or work in nursing centers".

In Vietnam, there are no specific statistics for housekeeping jobs at home. However, the income is definitely not a small number, up to tens of millions of dong, even hundreds of million dong per month. Therefore, many young people are willing to work as maids in wealthy families and then upgrade themselves to become professional housekeepers.

District 7 tycoon Doan Di Bang once spent 120 million VND/month on his maid and was also given many luxury items. Or like Thuy Kieu - Ngoc Trinh's maid, just received her salary and immediately bought a 60 USD bag (about 1.3 million VND). Many people predict that Thuy Kieu may have an income of up to several tens of millions of dong per month to "get away" like that.

Previously, designer Thai Cong also recruited housekeepers with shocking requirements and benefits.
