In the first semi-final round of the show Sing! Asia , Phuong My Chi and contestant Kha Lau from China brought a unique combination through two songs: Tuy am and Luc hai vi vuong.
The performance, which blended Vietnamese reformed opera and Chinese drama, not only expressed the unique cultural identity of each country, but also helped the duo score points with the judges, officially advancing to the second semi-final round.
However, right before the official performance, Phuong My Chi suddenly encountered a technical problem during the rehearsal. Her headphones malfunctioned, making it impossible for the singer to hear the harmony clearly. Phuong My Chi's worried expression and timely response showed her professionalism as well as her high demands for her performance.
Immediately after that, she asked the technical team to check and fix the problem. Although the error was promptly resolved before the show, the team still received a lot of criticism from a part of the audience who thought that the lack of preparation could affect the singer's psychology, especially when this is an international competition.
However, many people believe that technical problems during rehearsals were unavoidable and that the crew reacted quickly and promptly, so they should not be harshly criticized. Many viewers defended Phuong My Chi and her crew, and highly appreciated the singer's calm and professional spirit when facing unexpected situations.
It can be seen that, stepping out onto the international stage for the first time, Phuong My Chi is not simply a timid rookie. At Sing! Asia, a continental music event that brings together outstanding young faces from across the region, the little girl who once caused a stir with her sweet folk songs appeared as a talented artist, with inner strength and a clear artistic statement: Introducing a modern, profound and unique Vietnam to international friends.
However, behind that brilliant moment was no coincidence or lucky miracle. Phuong My Chi's success at Sing! Asia is the crystallization of a process of hard work, challenges and constant evolution in musical thinking, image and stage presence.
To step onto the international stage with such a strong mindset, Phuong My Chi had a breakthrough run called School Tour: Universe of Flying Storks, held in October 2024. Not a grand concert in a grand theater, nor an expensive commercial show, but a completely free event, taking place in the middle of a school space but gathering nearly 10,000 spectators in the rain to wait to see a Gen Z singer perform.
And they were not disappointed. From the first lines to her eyes, steps, and every accent on stage, Phuong My Chi conquered the audience not with tricks, but with her real ability, with her inner strength that had been honed over the years. She sang live like she was "swallowing a CD", danced with professional choreography, and dominated the stage with an aura that was not inferior to any international artist.
A singer once associated with the Ao Ba Ba and folk music, has now transformed into a versatile performer, leading the audience through many musical spaces from traditional to modern, from nostalgia to breakthrough.
But few people know that, to have a free, brilliant and meticulous School Tour night, Phuong My Chi's team has put in all their efforts, both financially and in faith. Many people were surprised to know that the entire tour did not charge the audience, no tickets were sold, no seating classes, no priority distribution, all the audience were invited to experience the music in the fairest and purest way.
When asked about the investment budget for School Tour, Mr. Phan Anh, Production Director, frankly said: "Not less than 10 billion VND". A number that makes many people startled, but is completely reasonable when looking at the scale, quality and vision that the project brings.
Not stopping at the media effect, School Tour has become an important turning point in Phuong My Chi's career, creating the image of a Gen Z artist who is responsible, willing to contribute to the community and use music as a bridge to inspire.
