Appearing on tvN's "You Quiz on the Block " that aired on May 1-5, actor Park Sung Hoon opened up about his role as villain Yoon Eun Sung in the hit drama "Queen of Tears " that recently ended.
When talking to the MC of the show, the actor said that he received a lot of malicious and insulting messages and comments because of his character in the film.
"While eating at a restaurant, a girl hit me on the back and said leave Hae In and Hyun Woo (the two main characters) alone!" - Park Sung Hoon said.
The actor also added that because the Queen of Tears is so popular, it is also difficult for him to receive advertising because of his deep villainous image.
But it also made more viewers know the name Park Sung Hoon and the role of Eun Sung helped him receive love and support from fans.
Earlier, in an interview with JoyNews24, Park Sung Hoon revealed that he saw many reactions from viewers online, even receiving a lot of direct messages through social media. He received so much hate that he had to take a break. However, there is a Korean saying that the more ì (yok) (hate/criticize/curse), the longer you will live.
Park Sung Hoon shared , "I was hated a lot for this role, which lasted enough to last my entire life. I couldn't even check my direct messages for a while because of so many angry messages coming in. But in reality I am not. I'm glad that many people loved the drama and had a lot of love for Hae In x Hyun Woo. It's nice to see everyone's support."
Park Sung Hoon tried to view the hate he received positively. In an interview with The Korea Times, the actor explained why he doesn't mind receiving so many hate messages. He felt it was an act of praise because he portrayed his character well.
"I really wasn't bothered or hurt by those direct messages... Because they supported Hong and Baek, they had the same reaction to my character. That's how they love and care about our film so I enjoyed reading the comments. Now I think the perspective has changed. In the past, people used to consider this character as the real personality of the actor but now, many people see it more personally. So I try to take them as compliments that I portrayed my character convincingly," Park Sung Hoon said.
After airing its final episode, " Queen of Tears" broke his record for Landing to become the highest-rated drama in Korean tvN's history. According to a report based on an integrated cable, IPTV, and satellite/paid platform provided by Nielsen Korea, in terms of 2049 viewership ratings (viewers aged 20-49), Queen of Tears recorded an average of 11.8 percent and a peak of 12.8 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area, as well as an average of 12.1 percent and a peak of 13.3 percent nationwide.
With the new numbers received, Queen of Tears has broken its highest viewership ratings for 8 consecutive weeks. The film captured the top spot in the same time slot on all channels, including terrestrial channels.
Talking about the drama's remarkable achievement, Park Sung Hoon said, "The drama received a lot of love but I was really hated. I get a lot of insults in comments or direct messages on my SNS."
