Airing on October 4, the four-episode documentary Beckham is currently receiving great attention from the media and the global public. One of the notable points is that David Beckham and his wife first shared about the former player's infidelity scandal in 2003.
Although the documentary doesn't mention David's partner, everyone who's heard it knows it's the personal assistant of the star who was born in 1975 at the time, Rebecca Loos.
Rebecca Loos was born in 1977 in Madrid, Spain. She is the daughter of Dutch diplomat Leendert Willem Alberto Loos Bartholdi and his British-born wife Elizabeth. She studied at Runnymede College, an English-speaking school with tuition fees of £16,000 a year (VND 474 million) in Madrid.
Leaving school, she worked in banking before moving into PR work and joining the Madrid office of global management company SFX.
When David (then 28) moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in the summer of 2003, Rebecca (26 at the time) was given a job as the player's personal assistant, helping him and his family settle in the new city. According to the Daily Mail, it was a lonely time for the 7X midfielder, who had to move to an unfamiliar environment, without Victoria and her two young children, Brooklyn and Romeo, by her side.
In September, David and Rebecca were photographed in a nightclub. Rumors of infidelity began to circulate from that time. Rebecca was transferred to a less important job by her management company, always fearing dismissal.
In April 2004, the story of the extramarital affair appeared in the now-defunct News of the World under the pen of Max Clifford. It was Rebecca who sold news to the tabloid. At that time, David was no longer involved with SFX, and his lover had been fired from his job and was working at another company. Details of the scandal told indirectly through a "friend" have been hot topics for months.
The "friend" said David was hurt when Victoria ignored him, focusing only on his singing career in London. He quickly falls into an affair with his female personal assistant.
On the reason for exposing the affair, Rebecca explained: "I knew it was going to be exposed anyway so I wanted to control it. When the press told me what they knew, I decided it would be better if I cooperated."
Max Clifford said Rebecca loves money and fame. The British journalist also claimed to have paid the female assistant 800,000 pounds (23.7 billion VND) to get details of the scandal.
However, Rebecca denied: "The amount I was paid wasn't even half of what people quoted. I can't buy one, buy a villa and support myself for the rest of my life."
Despite the wrong romantic relationship created by the two, Rebecca Loos suffered the hardest hit.
After fleeting fun, David returned to Victoria's generous arms.
As for Rebecca, she moved to London looking for a chance at stardom. She really got a chance to break into showbiz thanks to a fuss with David Beckham, but things developed in a way she never expected.
In late 2004, Rebecca took part in the Channel Five reality show The Farm, which focused on a group of celebrities living and working on the farm. In the show, producers asked to focus on footage of Rebecca helping a pair of pigs breed. As expected, this scene attracted great attention.
Rebecca decided to part ways with Clifford's company when she was asked to appear on Playboy Channel for £250,000 (£7.4 billion). She emphasized she wasn't ready to be a sexy model. Later, however, she was photographed showing off her 1st round picks for Playboy and other men's magazines such as FHM, Nuts, and Zoo.
In 2006, Rebecca dueted with James Hewitt, a former cavalry officer who had an affair with Princess Diana, on ITV's X Factor: Battle Of The Stars to raise money for Save The Children. There, she was mocked by judge Sharon Osbourne â a friend of the Beckham family â not for charity, but for her own benefit. Osbourne also criticized Rebecca's singing voice, describing her and Hewitt as "guests from hell."
In a 2013 interview, Rebecca said Sharon Osbourne's remarks left her stunned, angry and hurt. The discomfort dogged her so persistently that it led to depression and medication.
For years, Rebecca tried to ignore the bullying but eventually had to admit that the way people viewed and treated her hurt her a lot. Rebecca felt helpless and regretted what she had done.
Rebecca's life took a different turn in 2008, when she joined the crew of another reality show, the Dutch version of 71 Degrees North. She explored the North Pole with everyone and got to know Sven Christjar Skaiaa, the Norwegian-born doctor on the show.
Feelings between them quickly blossomed. When she found out she was pregnant, Rebecca decided to move to Norway to live with Sven in 2009. In July of the same year, she gave birth to her first son, Magnus. They went on to have another son, Liam, in 2012.
Rebecca praised Sven as the man of her dreams and that becoming a mother was the best thing in her life.
The entertainment career stopped from there. She used to sell maternity clothes online but did not make much profit, eventually having to close. Today, at the age of 46, Rebecca is a yoga instructor living in isolation in the Norwegian mountains with her husband and two children.
She was almost out of touch with the press. Social media posts revolve around simple lives such as practicing yoga, taking hot baths, hiking, cycling or foraging in the wild.
However, the name "the girl accused of having an affair with Beckham" will forever cling to Rebecca. Perhaps, deep down, she still wondered why David became a national treasure, and she suffered detractors.
